2000 Dodge Dakota developed a brake problem.** answer required***. the brake would pulsate when braking and cause severe problems with the ABS which almost took the vehicle off of the road. The brakes were replaced a year prior.

I have been having brake problems with my Dodge Dakota 4X4 club cab truck since the first 6,000 miles. Warped rotors have been replaced at least 5 times and I have also complained about poor stopping power of back brakes. Dodge dealership "checked" them and found nothing wrong. Also having lots of problems with noises from front suspension and am suspecting ball joint problems now because of all the news coming out regarding this problem recently on cbs news.

While driving at 25 mph consumer was following another vehicle, and upon stepping on the brakes consumer's vehicle did not slow down and collided with the other vehicle. Consumer was wearing seat belts, but the air bags did not deploy. When driving at any speed the brakes usually locked up, causing the vehicle to slide to the right through intersections.

While driving home from work I needed to slow down to make a turn. I pressed the brake and it went completely to the floor. Luckily I do not have an automatic because I had to power shift down and I barely made the turn not to mention almost hitting a telephone pole. I was just about home so I proceeded driving slowly because I knew I had no brakes, and I then I saw smoke coming out of the hood. I quickly then got to the house and sprayed it down with the hose. I am in the process of figuring out what happened and the last that I heard was the main switch went out, which should have never happened. I am just thankful that nobody got hurt. (luckily it did not happen where there were people).

After about 13000 miles, application of brakes caused increasingly severe shuddering of front of truck accompanied by significant extension of braking distance (at least 30%). narrowly avoided what could have been a major collision. Suspected failure of ABS, took car to dealer who diagnosed it as warped rotors in the front. Dealer turned rotors and reported essentially zero wear on the brakepads. Dealer also replaced brake pads. Dealer surmised that there was a chronic material problem with the Dakota disk brake system. This problem appears to manifest itself again now, some 8000 miles later. When I recently contacted Chrysler by E-mail and explained the problem, their response was merely that there was currently no open problem (hence no action). What is hard to fathom is that NHTSA with some 100 user complaints about the very same safety-related problem does not appear to be pursuing this issue. Corrective action by Dodge in the form of a recall and replacement of the failure-prone disk system is clearly warranted in this situation. Please advise what, if any, action NHTSA is taking, or plans to take, to address this problem. This truly is a matter of "people saving people."

Vehicle pulses while braking, and stoping distance has increased. Dealer has turned the front discs once, at app. 11000 miles, but the problem has since returned at app. 17000 miles. Something must be done to fix this annoying problem. There are too many complaints, of the same problem, by so many owners.

Front rotors are warping on a regular basis. Rotors were replaced at 18000/40000/47000/57000. Currently at 59000 miles, rotors need replacement again. Consumer states the front and rear brakes were replaced this time, vehicle has 68000 miles and it feels as if the front brakes are hanging up, there is a lot of brake dust on the rims and rotors, in the winter time the brakes would lock up and cause the vehicle to skid.

My Dodge Dakota sport 4X4 4.7ltr V-8's brakes started sputtering and hopping at about 13000 miles. Since that time the problem has only gotten worse. I am currently at about 24000 miles. I have talked to several people where I work that have owned Dodge vehicles (99 and newer) and all of them have had the same problem. I researched this on the internet and found hundeds upon hundreds of people have this same problem. Using brakes that are defective on a vehicle is a major safety issue. How come Dodge has not yet recalled these brakes" how can so many people buy a brand new truck and have to replace the brake system within a year" this is very frustrating and dangerous for all the Dodge vehicle drivers throughout the world.
