This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Brake rotors are warped. When applying brakes they will pulsate or flutter. Also, vehicle has extended stopping distance. Contacted dealer, and had to replace rotors.
When slamming on brakes ABS braking system worked. However, when at a traffic stop and applied brakes, pedal went all the way to the floor. There were no holds, and he went though intersection. Dealership was aware of problem.
When applying brakes front brakes locks up and the vehicle pulls to left and right, cause unknown. Consumer states the problem does not occur everytime the brakes are applied, two mechanis could not duplicate the problem, the brake pads have been replaced four times, the rotors have been turned and the problem still remains.
Braking system fails to properly slow/stop vehicle when brake pedal is depressed. When brakes are applied vehicle is sluggish to slow down, and will impact an object in front if a hard stop is necessary. Dealership has examined vehicle and determined that brakes do not function properly, but a cause for this defect could not be determined.
Problem is that the brake pads are like brand new and the rotors are heavily grooved on both sides of the rotor and it is both rotors.it took the factory rep from Dodge two months to look at it and when he finally did he said it was normal wear and tear.I have had vehicles for over 7 years for one vehicle and have never had to even replace the brakes.they tried to tell me it is stop and go traffic or pulling my boat and I told them I have only pulled it about 5 times.why would you put a towing package on the truck if you were going to have to replace the rotors evey 15 thousand miles.this is a safety problem and someone is goin to be killed one day if they already haven't.can you do something about this problem or are we just screwed again.
Brakes are out of round, and vehicle vibrates real hard. Hard to handle, and hard to stop. Dealer feels that consumer is hitting brakes too hard, and may be abusing them. Consumer went through this once before with rear brakes, and then with front brakes.
When consumer applied brakes in gravel sand on street, front two tires will lock up, and rear wheels will not slide. Dealership was aware of problem. The consumer states that the dealer failed to properly fix the brakes and the problem still exists.
At 6000 miles I had a jerk when applying the brakes, I got much worse as time went on. At 14000 miles I finally had the dealership replace the rotors because braking was very dangerous. Now at 30000 I once again have problems. I have to replace the rotors very soon again and I have a feeling that the rear drums are also warped. I also have a awful squeel coming from all 4 brakes. I work with 3 people that have 97 or newer and they all have the same problem.
Right rear brakes grab/lock up intermittently while driving, the vehicle has been taken to the dealer on several occasions but the brakes continue to lock up. Nlm
The right rear brakes locks up and release at low speeds, we tested (mechanic) the brakes and the ABS didn't work at sometimes, but then again it work fine.
Dealer diagnosed "wobble" while braking as warped rotors and possible warped rear drums. This after 18000 miles of "normal" driving conditions. I seriously question the capabilities of the brake system that fails after such short use under mainly highway driving. This is apparently a condition on Dakotas that is becoming more prevelent and notices. Safety issues with "underengineered" brake system should be investigated. Thank you.
When applying brakes ABS braking systems was defective, and vehicle didn't stop. Rear wheels lock up during snow conditions but the dealer was unable to correct the problem.
This vehicle has a little more than 12,000 miles on it, and it has been at repair shop twice for warped rotors. Brake pedall goes to floor when brake pedal is pressed. On. dealer has been contacted.
When applying brakes pedal went to the floor, lights flashed on dashboard, resulting in extended stopping distance. After vehicle was inspected by dealer it was discovered that bolt holding calipers popped out. Vehicle has been repaired by dealer.
