On 5 or 6 occasions, when gas tank is full, my Charger stalls. On one occasion, it restarted easily only to stall again seconds later. Another occasion, stalled, restart, stalled, restart, stalled, restart. Another occasion, stalled and took several attempts to restart. Has stalled from sitting and idling, 10mph and 30 mph. Once it stalled as I was coming to stop at signal light and narrowly avoided rear ending car in front of me because was difficult to apply brake.
Nearly every time I refuel the vehicle it stalls 4-6 times in the first 5 miles. This has left me in turns without power steering, on highway on ramps without power steering or brakes, and sitting in busy intersections attempting to re-start the car. It is worse if I turn left after gassing up - car will immediately die while in the intersection. This has happened approximately 30 times in the last 10 months.
After filling up the fuel tank, leaving the gas station the car stalled out several times. First out of the gas station, then 2 more times while getting on the freeway. Very nerve racking. This has been a consistent situation everytime I have filled up for the last several months. I have not been able to use the vehicle to travel back and forth to work or other business needs. Not real happy right now. Have contact dealer and waiting response.
The car stalls while driving. It completely shuts off with a loss of all power. Shifting to neutral and restarting while in motion typically works to regain power. This has happened numerous times over the last several months, with no pattern as to when or why. The car has been taken to the dealer twice to no avail.
I purchased this 2006 Dodge Charger R/T from a dealership in woodland, ca immediately after leaving the lot I drove approx. 20 miles on my way home the car started stalling while I was driving on the freeway, I will be driving along and it will suddenly jerk and lose all power for a split second (if someone was riding my bumper it would have been an accident for sure) as it lost power the RPM gauge went all the way down and jumped back up as if the car died completely and restarted itself, it chimed even as if I had just started the car. I have researched this issue online and see its a very common problem to no avail. I took my car to the dealership in my hometown and they could not find the problem, said it was spark plugs etc I ended up spending $550 and its still stalling sometimes up to 15-20 times a day its very dangerous unfortunately the car is out of warranty and I cant afford to keep dishing money out to Dodge. I seriously believe this is a common issue with Dodge and Chrysler vehicles as I've seen online very many people having this same problem but there's no solution as far as I can find! im kinda scared to drive the car like this but its my only means of transportation so this needs to be looked into!! its dangerous!

Was coming down a hill when my engine died and the dashboard chime started ringing, plus the oil pressure light came on. Was very lucky being able to wrestle the car, still going downhill with no power driving or power brake assist, into a 7-11 just before a major intersection (four lanes one way, six lanes crosswise). Called a tow truck. Had been sitting there for a half hour and on a lark we tried to start it up again--and it did start (immediately after incident, I could not start). But I was unsure of reliability so had it towed to shop, which could find no problem. Drove it away the next day and did research, and found multiple reports in an enthusiast forum (chargerforums.com) saying this issue affected them after the gas tank was filled. Belief is flaw in valve leading to evap system--no one with new Chargers seems to have this problem, perhaps reside buildup over time (one forum member, after replacing tank, cut section away with valve and reported accumulated reside on valve). Only known solution said to be replacement of gas tank (because valve is buried in tank) or not filling up all the way. Since then, I have only filled gas tank to 3/4 mark most of the time. That eliminated the problem except for two more incidents when I was careless and let it fill close to totally full. *everyone* who gets new gas tank reports this problem as solved. Mileage above is approximate.
Stall/die/shut off after fill up under normal driving conditions while in drive and in motion. Only happens right after fill up. Once you burn some of the fuel out of the tank, it returns to normal.
Most times, after refueling the car will stall while driving. It does not matter if the tank is empty or half full prior to refueling. The stalling will happen within the first 10 minutes after refueling. It does not happen any other time during vehilcle operation. The car has stalled while driving on highway, at intersections and during normal operation with no warning and potentially could have been very hazardous. I am aware of the situation and now wait for at least 10 minutes after refueling before leaving the gas station.
After refueling my 2006 Dodge Charger 5.7L the engine stalled as I was leaving the stations parking lot and after restarting the engine ran very rough for a short while. After about 2 miles of driving everything cleared up. Took it to a repair shop because I thought maybe I had got bad gasoline but everything checked out fine. I was told not to fill completely up and that this is a known problem that is very expensive to fix.
The cars stalls after gas fillup. The cars stalls in traffic while moving the engine simply stops. Usually restarts when tried. The car also "bucks" while running at times also after a fillup. Dodge agreed to replace my gas-tank out of warranty as a courtesy to me in 2012. I had to pay $100 of the repair. I am filing this to aid you in tracing the defective gas tanks as I have become aware that this is a large-spread problem and have first hand experience with it. My problem was solved by the new gas tank and replacement of the evaporative control system vapor tank. I have no issue at this time but I am concerned that the underlying issue has not been fixed and that this will happen again at some point.
I had just filled my car with (93 octane fuel) after putting the car back on the road, as it is my summer vehicle. I never fill past first click. I started it and it started idling rough 200-300 rpms and it quit. I started the vehicle and had to give it some gas to get it to go again which it did, chalked it up to coincidence. I pulled out of the gas station and was making a left hand turn across traffic and no sooner did I pull out than did it stall, narrowly missed being hit by a large truck, put in neutral and it restarted. However it did not run very well it was what I call bucking and surging as I drove down the road the car was almost unresponsive as far as throttle control about 15- 30 mph. As I left the city the car stalled again I rolled to the right side of the roadand popped it into neutral, it restarted and idled normal again. I was now entering the highway to go home and made it home approximately 15 miles away. The car seemed fine again. I have long had a stalling issue with the car every since I purchased in January of 2012. I have take care of this car to the utmoststandard while in my possession. This car is immaculate and is not a clunker. I have also experienced the stalling issue when making tight turns at parking lot speed mostly to the left. The issue lies in the fuel tank itself there is a valve on top that fails and lets raw gasoline into the emissions vapor system. This should not be happening! Chrysler nationwide is going through 43 of these tanks on average a week. This tells me there is a large issue. To add insult to injury the tank is not cheap or simple or easy to install with an average bill of 1200 -1800 dollars depending on how many components are damaged as a result of the raw fuel entering a closed system.there are many Chrysler tsbs concerning this condition, I believe they underestimate the severity of this condition.
The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Charger. The contact stated that after refueling, the vehicle stalled. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer each time and the contact was informed that the failure could not be replicated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 100,000.
Not sure of exact first date or mileage this happened, but around 12/17/12 and 92,000 miles I went to gas station and filled tank, then drove approx 1.5 miles towards home, and then while going about 25 mph on slight downward slope in my neighborhood vehicle stalled out completely without any warning and oil light came on. I let car sit off for few minutes and then it restarted, then I drove less than 0.5 miles and car stalled again when backing into garage so I did not attempt to restart and pushed car into garage since never experienced this type of problem before on this vehicle, or any vehicle I have ever owned in 20 years. Then same thing happened again in Jan 2013 right after fillup, car stalled within 100 yards of pulling out of gas station in traffic, but was able to restart but ran roughly for first few minutes after restart. Then happened again a few more times between Jan - March after fillups. Then on 4/17/13 happened few minutes after fillup while on highway ramp and vehicle almost got hit by cars coming behind me with wife in car. That time vehicle would not restart after two attempts, but let sit for few minutes and then applied gas pedal and started, and ran rough again for few minutes afterwards then smoothed out. Very lucky that time my wife and I did not get rear ended by cars speeding up on ramp to get on highway since hardly any shoulder area to pull over. Since that incident I have been filling up tank using slowest pumping selection to try and avoid stallouts after fillups. Chrysler is aware of this problem based upon info I pulled off web, and only permanent recommend fix was to replace gas tank and all lines since they come as one assembly unit, but that sounds like a definite manufacturer's defect to me as opposed to a normal wear and tear issue, and should be made into a recall before someone gets seriously injured.
After refueling my 2006 Dodge Charger, the car stalled while traveling out of the gas station and the speed was appoximately 20 mph. This has happened several times and only after the tank has been filled to capacity. From what I have read online this is a fuel overflow sensor on the top of the fuel tank that is causing this.
I had just filled up my car with fuel and upon exiting the gas station my car stalled. I put the transmission into neutral and coasted to the side of the road. I waited several minutes and restarted the car and went on my way without further incident. I had been aware of a potential problem with my vehicle for this type of problem with information I gleaned from internet forums and this helped me to not panic when it eventually happened to me. This event happened in the evening with fairly light traffic and with the traffic light in my favor. Had the roads been busier and the traffic flowing northbound at the time I may have been broadsided by oncoming traffic. This issue has not been acknowledged or addressed by Chrysler to date as far as I know.
If I fill up my car with gas, it will stall and hesitate. After driving for a few miles it will stop and not happen again until I fill it up again. If I don't fill it all the way, it wont do it. Please fix it!!!
Immediately after fueling, the vehicle stalled while leaving the gas station and lost all belt driven components as a result - power steering, A/C, etc. The vehicle subsequently stalled several more times while driving, and exhibited labored acceleration in between. This was the first incident and has been repeated every time it was refueled until pump shut off since, regardless of different gas stations and fuels.
After refueling the vehicle the vehicle stalled making a left hand turn across traffic. The resulting issue didn't result in an accident but it was close. After that time, the vehicle will stall after filling the passenger fuel chamber over 60 liters.
