This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The passenger side sliding door has issues locking and unlocking. The actuator buzzes whenever the car locks or unlocks, even after a replacement part installed. When automatically closing the door, it often gets -??stuck-?? trying to close and you can hear the door/lock motor repeatedly trying to pull the door closed and lock it even though the door is in the closed position. It will do this until the battery drains if not dealt with. To stop it, I have to manually open the door and slam it closed. Oftentimes the door is just stuck and will not open when in this stuck mode, which is the major safety concern. This has been happening for over a year now. It is especially worse in the heat, but happens all year. These doors are also frozen shut in the winter and the family has to enter the vehicle through the front driver or passenger doors.
The contact owns a 2014 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The contact stated that the failure occurred mostly while driving over bumps on the road surface. Additionally, on several occasions the vehicle would not immediately start up. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not yet notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000.
Driver-side sliding passenger door cinch motor keeps activating when it is hot outside. Usually when above 85 degrees and the direct sun hitting the side of the van. Sometimes runs continually for one to two minutes. Sometimes after locking doors alarm will go off on its own. When driving down the road door ajar light and chime will come on also interior lights will flash. No issue in colder weather. Happens all summer long.
Twice now the vehicle has turned itself off. Once idling in a parking lot and once driving down the road. There were no warning lights that came on, the engine just died and all the electronics reset (clock, speedo, etc.).
The car was turned on and 3 children were getting buckled in both rear rows of the vehicle. Within seconds the cabin was filling with smoke. An electrical fire had started from the rear charging area which is located next to the second row drivers side seat. Everyone exited with no physical injuries, although panic was experience and a new anxiety now for driving in cars. Since then I-??ve read that this year Chrysler T&C has had multiple reports of similar incidences yet no recall on file.

While traveling at highway speed 65 MPH when the engine and electrical went off without warning, causing all lights, in and out to go off, power steering to be lost and I'm sure power brakes to be compromised. Was able to put vehicle in neutral and restart the engine while coasting. This did happen at night leaving the vehicle without lights while it is coasting and loosing speed on a busy freeway. This has happened a few times previously but this is the first time on the freeway.
The contact owns a 2014 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact stated that while his wife was driving approximately 20-30 MPH, the vehicle stalled. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact's wife veered to the side of the road and parked the vehicle. The contact stated that as his wife turned off and restarted the vehicle, she was able to continue to drive with no issues. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V373000 (Electrical System, Air Bags). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000. The VIN was not available.
NHTSA has an open Investigation: PE 20-012. In this investigation, "Complainants allege a fire started at the charge hub mounted in the trim panel located on the driver's side of the vehicle between the second and third row seating." My 2014 Town and Country has an issue where the motor and/or latching mechanism overheats and the door starts to open and close on its own. This event only happens during the extreme heat of the summer (such as 90 degrees and above). The local dealership recommended replacing all of the mechanisms in the door. However, they have no idea why the air temperature impacts the door. Regardless, the door is subject to overheating. These mechanisms are located in the same part of the care where the fire investigation is occurring.
Charge Hub mounted between trim panel on drivers side between second row and third row seat burned. I parked and smoke started rolling in van. Strong burning smell. Had to call Fire Dept.
When attempting to close the rear sliding doors, they attempt to latch and then fail. If it's hot out the motor will randomly go off and randomly operate. The harness and motors have been replaced and yet it continues.
In warm weather my drivers side power door will not latch- the motor keeps cycling. Also, when I hit a bump the car will chime, interior lights come on and the open door light will engage ad if the door is open. This has been happening for approximately 4 years and I cannot find a solution. It is only an issue a warm weather (above 70 degrees). Chrylser has not been able to fix the issue. I conducted an internet aearch and it appears that I am not the only owner with this problem.
The radio has stopped working. The screen will sometimes come on to all white then go off again and other times the Chrysler symbol will show then go off after a few minute. No sound, no back up camera, nothing. Been doing this for 3 days.
Tire pressure senser reads a false low tire. Tires inspected my mechanic and none of the tires are actually low. Tire pressure senser stays on every engine start and does not go away
I've listed a date below I don't recall the exact date, don't recall the exact mileage, or the exact speed everything listed herein is approximate, if it had happened all day everyday then I could've remembered, but the following has happened on multiple occasions both in winter and in summer. 1. vehicle has stopped on me while driving multiple times, doesn't otherwise seem to drive rough, it has also stalled on me while driving and I make "Y" turns or am driving and stop at a stop sign. I put the van back in park, and it will start back up. It doesn't happen while the car is in park. Sometimes there is a burning smell that is similar to the smell of an airplane. 2. ticking noise when I start and continues while I'm driving and increases as I accelerate. 3. heat and A/C will turn on, on its own, turns on the rear first, and then the front seats after, I can turn it off and it will repeat the process (I've actually recorded it happening). 4. left passenger door closes on its own, won't stay open, clicking noise even if it's closed. 5. interior lights and radio will flicker and go dim then bright (as if switching from night to daytime throughout the whole time I'm driving frequently happens).
My vehicle randomly shut off while driving. It happened 15 times over the past year creating extremely dangerous situations. Because it was not throwing any codes, and would not replicate often, it was hard to diagnose until I developed an issue with starting the car, almost a year later. The win module was bad. I now know that earlier model year's had a recall for this exact issue. I find it curious that the bad win module would occur randomly for my model year without a collection of occurances.
The rear passenger sliding door continues to try to latch after closed, generally only on very hot days. This happens when the vehicle is stationary or in motion. This is a well known problem with these vehicles. Please read the comments on the site below to see how many people have been effected by this- how is this not a recall yet?? https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-C24092_ds899542
Transmission went with 56000 miles, getting the car back in almost 4 weeks. Now car just stops dead. Had to tow to dealer again same problem. Scared to drive because after getting car back engine 'rolls'. feels like stopping. I stalled yesterday at intersection and got towed to dealer. The fixed trans but now I have just stopping problem. Looking the problem up I find it's a problem with Chrysler. I can't afford to keep a lemon. Please check it out.
