Horn went off whenever it wanted. Changed relay switch and it stopped for several months then started again. Took out relay switch and bypassed the horn and put a button switch and now use that to honk my horn if necessary

I have the same horn issue as everyone else on here " It goes off in the middle of the night " waking up my neighbors and my family. I was surprised to see that when I pulled this up on Google the complaints about this issue and to find that Chrysler has not recalled this is very alarming especially seeing how some people have taken their cars to the dealer and it is said the horn problem is tied in to the air bag as well. I have spent better than 60k buying and driving Chrysler products and I am going to place a call to Chrysler on 3/7/2011 about this. I saw more than 100 complaints on different sites concerning this problem and if this does not get recalled I will trade it in and never purchase another Chrysler product.

As I read the other complaints I'm beginning to realize that this my burden to bear. So far my options are cough of $1000.00 or drive around in Houston traffic w/o a horn or airbag........what to do, what to do.

I unlocked the door using the remote and the horn went off like it was the panic button hit. I tried all the buttons and it finally went off. I didn't drive it for a couple of days. We replaced the batteries in the remote and it worked OK for a couple of days. Then I unlocked the door with the remote and the same think happened. While driving home the horn went off by itself for a period of about 30 seconds a couple of times. It went off while I was sitting at a light and I hit the steering wheel with the palm of my hand and it went off. I haven't driven it now for a couple of days. It is a royal pain in the butt. If there are so many of these then Chrysler should have a recall and fix it. I will not risk my life with removing the fuse since it disengages the air bag. This is a safety issue. Anyone get any satisfaction from Chrysler with them paying for the repair?

I clicked the unlock button on my keychain and the horn started going off. I tried clicking the unlock, lock & panic buttons several times and the horn continued. I hit the horn button on the steering wheel several times with no luck. Finally I started my car and within a few seconds the horn stopped. I closed the driver door and the horn stared going off again and wouldn't stop. I had just received a phone call that my dad had a stroke, so I was in a hurry and needed to leave. The horn wouldn't stop, so I decided to drive my pickup. As I was backing out of the driveway my car horn finally quit. It was about 7:30 am and was really cold outside, temp was in the teens and there was frost on the window. I was so upset about my dad and the car horn situation sure didn't help.

Update from Jan 5, 2011: Sorry this posted twice. I thought I lost the first one and so I did another post. I am still having a terrible problem with the car horn. Every time I unlock the car the horn goes off so I haven't driven it for about a week for fear of it going off while driving or while parked at work. I have discovered that it will cost approx. $1000 to fix it. The horn is attached to the air bag in the steering column, so the airbag will have to be replaced. You can pull the horn fuse, which will stop the horn from going off, but it will also stop your airbag from going off. I think this issue is a big safey hazzard. Your horn has to work properly or you vehicle won't pass inspection, plus if you have to pull the fuse, then you lose your horn and airbag. I filed a complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. There are 57 complaints against the 2006 Sebring. You can access their website at www.safercar.gov and file a complaint if wish.

I clicked my unlock button and my horn started going off and wouldn't stop. I tried pushing the unlock, lock & panic buttons on my key chain numerous times and it wouldn't stop. I hit the horn button several times and then started my car. It finally stopped a few seconds after I started my car. When I shut the car door the horn went off again and I couldn't get it to stop. I was in a hurry, I had just got a call that my dad had a stroke and I was trying to leave. I needed to leave and didn't know what to do about the car so I decided to drive my pickup. Several times my horn came on and honked continually. It happened when I was driving as well as when my car was just sitting in the driveway. It happened when I hit the button on the remote to unlock the car door. When I was driving, I had to push down hard on the center of the steering wheel as I steered with the other hand. It was very dangerous. When I took it to the car dealer, I was told it was caused by a switch that controls the horn and the air bag. It would cost over $500 just for the part. It will be around $1000 with labor. Since I don't have that much money to spare, my husband pulled the horn relay fuse out. The service technician said doing that would stop the horn, but also prevent the air bag from deploying. So now I am driving without a horn or an air bag, a major safety hazard! I will register a complaint with Chrysler.

Update from Jan 2, 2011: I emailed the Chrysler customer service department and received a phone call from one of their representatives. I was told to have a diagnostic test run at the local Chrysler dealer. I did so where I was told it was the airbag/horn switch that needed to be repaired and the cost would be over $800. When I emailed this information back to Chrysler, I was told that I should get the repairs done and mail the original service repair order and proof of payment to Chrysler. Chrysler would then reimburse me for the repairs, all except for a $200 deductible that I would have to pay.

My car is Sebring touring 2006, 85000km, the horn went off during night , or morning whether while I am driving or it is parking, Which made me very uncomfortable and very annoying. This symptom happened since winter, 2009. And in winter (cold), it happens frequently, I asked mechanic to check it, he said may be it has something wrong with security system.. Does anyone know what is the problem? It makes me very embarrassed when it is honking in the morning or night..

Read the other post about this issue and they could be talking about my car-horn blares w/out the car being on and even when it is on. Happens even in hot weather as I live in South Texas and it goes off. Took it to the the dealership and they first told me it was the alarm. Took it to an alarm company and they told me it was not an after market alarm. Took it back to dealership and left it for two days, returned to find the car unfixed and a service dept telling me it did not happen for them so there was nothing they could do about it. Needless to say I cant roll down the road like that so I pulled the fuse. Also reading the fixes has me concerned that the airbag deployment system is also tied into this.

Clearly this is a parts issue, not consumer abuse of the car, and Chrysler needs to right this issue and fix it. It is distracting to the driver of the car, other drivers in the area and is a required component to pass inspection. If it doesn't operate properly then it is a safety issue warranting recall. Horn started going off by itself when the weather started getting colder. Not sure if that has anything to do with it, but finally just took the fuse out. No having the horn is a bit inconvenient, but haven't checked into getting it fixed yet.

Crazy electrical glitch...had two mechanic shops both say replace clock spring; had Chrysler dealership do that, and still the problem remains. I notice it only occurs when temperature is below freezing. (STRANGE BUT TRUE). I just worry about safety features and air bag control now too, since this stems from the steering wheel columne. You can lightly press top left corner of airbag above horn in car when horn engages, and it'll stop the horn temporarily, but makes it hard to drive and hold that spot too. All wires checked, cleaned, etc., and still no results after back in shop a second time.

Chrysler headquarters customer service center was NO help at all either with expenses, and spent over 1100 on extended warranty that doesn't cover all it's problems I'm facing, and this being a brand new purchase, only owning 5 months, and discovering MANY things going wrong with the car at such low mileage. VERY FRUSTRATING AND UPSETTING, yet costs are not cheap and problems not easy for mechanics to find solutions too either!!!

I'm having the same problem with my horn Goes off when it wants to, doesn't honk when I need it to.

I went to NHTSA.gov and filed a complaint. While I was there, I did a quick search and found 17 other complaints for the same problem.

I urge everybody to go there and file a complaint so that we can get a recall going.

The horn started blowing as soon as I started the car this morning. I turned off the ignition and it continued to blow. I was just lifting the hood to see what I could find when it stopped. I thought it was just an anomaly so I headed off to work, about 20 mins. later it started blowing again. Hitting the steering wheel would stop it for a second and then it would go off again. It finally quit after I hit it multiple times.

The warranty just ran out a couple of months ago, so I thin I'll just disconnect the horn.

I'm not looking forward to the drive home.

I had a problem with my horn going off whenever it pleased.I got mine fixed however. I took it to the dealer where I bought it and they replaced something in the steering wheel. Something was loose and pushing on the horn switch. I'm not entirely sure what it was but it was the issue. I haven't had a problem since. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful....hope you can take care of yours too!! =)

I purchased a used 2006 Sebring convertible last May, it was classified as a Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle. The horn began honking when the car was in the garage, two trips to the dealer and the car was sent to the alarm techs even when I repeatedly told them that it was not an alarm issue. The horn relay was replaced and the sensitivity of the alarm reset. The car still has the same issue, when I took it back last week. and the horn began honking in the service driveway, I was told, sorry it is out of warranty and if we take it apart you will be liable for the entire bill.

No amount of reasoning, ie the car had been in two times and it was not fixed, had any affect on the service writer. Today at work it began again, I had a friend disconnect the horn. Not the best fix, but at least it won't be honking as I am driving down the road.
