CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2015 Chrysler 200 carries the torch of "never buy the 1st year of a new vehicle generation" with pride.

The 2015 model year is the first year of the Chrysler 200's 2nd generation. It has been plagued by problems from the start. Transmission failure at extremely low mileage, many recalls, problems stalling while driving... the list goes on. Maybe Chrysler should have stuck with the 1st generation.

This is extremely dangerous. I owned a Chrysler 200 2015 and I have just reported a complaint about engine shut off. It happened again within hours. My wife was driving this vehicle from work to home and while she is taking an exit from the free way, the car engine shuts off and would not move any further or would not allow to shift the gears. My wife was so scared and frustrated as well because of ongoing traffic. Thank god no harm or damage happened. Could have been worse. Who would be responsible for it? I am not sure if I want to drive this car any more or not? I am going to the dealer tomorrow but I am also afraid of having it on free way. I feel like suing the company for producing such a faulty vehicles. Shame on Chrysler. Never again.

Purchased when they first came out July 2015. I was driving on a main street when car stalled and all the lights came on. Called Chrysler Roadside Assistance and they towed car to Larry Roesch Chrysler were I purchased the the car. They gave me a loaner and said they would take look at it on Monday. This seems pretty major to me.

Update from Apr 30, 2015: It has been repaired they said they replaced the PCM which is the POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE.

Same problem I had previously a month earlier, happened again. Was driving to work and car completely lost power. The dash flashed a bunch of error messages, including "service transmission, service parking brake, etc." Car had electrical power, but would not shift into gear. I would step on gas and nothing would happen. The gear shift knob was flashing the "P". When I turned the knob, nothing would happen. It would go into "S" but nothing would happen. Again, after about 5-6 minutes, the car regained power and I was able to drive to work. I made a video of the incident while it happened so I would have proof and will post that up on YouTube and update this report once I get that. I took it back to the dealership that same day and they said the same thing.

"We do not see anything wrong, we can not replicate the problem, we will have the system "relearn" the transmission". They then sent me on my way. Extremely dangerous and frustrating experience, and there is still no solution for it.

Was driving home from work, and car completely lost power while I was coming up to a light. The dash flashed a bunch of error messages including "service transmission, service parking brake, etc." Car had electrical power, but would not shift into gear. I would step on gas and nothing would happen. The gear shift knob was flashing the "P". When I turned the knob, nothing would happen. It would go int "S" but nothing would happen. I was stuck in the right hand turn lane on a busy street and had to wave people past me, thankfully, I was not stuck in the intersection.

After about 6 minutes of repeatedly turning the car on and off, the car started up normally, and would allow me to shift into gear. I drove home, and brought the car into the dealership the next day. They did not find anything wrong, and were unable to replicate the problem. They rebooted the computer and sent me on my way. I was not confident that the problem was fixed. ( see other complaints)

Very frustrating and more importantly dangerous problem for a car to have. I only had 4500 miles on it when this happened. I bought this car because of how nice it looked and drove, but I warn anyone looking at getting it to maybe wait a few years until they can fix this problem. The car is dangerous to drive, I only drive it to and from work 4 miles and never on the freeway.

We drive my wife's 2004 Toyota because it is safer. I bought the car despite the reliability issues Chrysler has had in the past because I liked the car so much and figured the warranty would cover it. Now I have a dangerous issue with NO SOLUTION. I am writing this for anyone considering this car.

I bought my wife a 2015 Chrysler 200S last June, and two weeks ago, we were driving to the store and it just shut down completely. We were able to start the vehicle, but were not able to put it in drive for at least 10 minutes.

Last night, 20 Apr 2015, my wife was on her way home from work, and luckily she wasn't driving fast, because the car shut down again. What I am afraid of is, she will be driving the car at the posted speed limit, and the car shuts down, and she has a major accident. What is sad about the whole situation is, the amount of complaints that I have read on the very car that we are driving, and yet there has not been any type of recall to assess or fix the problem. The only recall that I am aware of is for the shift knob, which I do not believe is what is causing this problem, but whatever it is, Chrysler needs to come up with some type of solution before someone gets hurt or killed.

I also don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I took her car in to the oil changed, and the dealership told me there were two updates that needed to be performed on the car, and after those updates is when these issues started.

Has anyone taken their car in to get it fixed, and if so, did it solve the problem, or make it worse.

I have been leasing a 2015 Chrysler 200 from your company since September 22, 2014. Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015, while on my way home I was at a stop light when my “Check Air Bag” light came on and the picture displayed as well, after the light turned green and I began to drive to find a place to pull over the light went off. I continued to drive home I reached another stop light, the light turned green, I attempted to accelerate but my car shut down. The check air bag picture and light displayed as well as all the other warning lights, vehicle would not move.

Once I was able to restart my car the “Check Engine” light remained on as well as the tire pressure picture and light. I was able to make it safely home since I was only about 7 minutes away and that Monday morning I took my car in to be serviced at Southfield Chrysler. I was contacted that Wednesday, April 8, 2015, and was advised that they found the problem, the pin connector was too wide, they replaced it and updated the chip or computer and that I could pick my vehicle up.

By that Saturday, April 11, 2015, my vehicle stalled out 3 times the exact same way it did before only this time the engine was making a rumbling noise. Monday morning I took my vehicle back in for servicing, picked it up Wednesday, April 15, 2015 and Thursday 24 hours later while on my way to class my car shuts down which was the final straw for me.

I have taken my vehicle in to be serviced for the exact same thing 3 times in less than two weeks. I am not sure whether Chrysler does not understand or does not care about the seriousness of malfunctions with my vehicle (and other 2015 Chrysler 200’s) and the fact that I (and possibly others) could be injured or killed because my vehicle just stalls out.

I am extremely unhappy with the service or lack thereof. I do not feel that the technicians are properly inspecting my vehicle to find the root of the problem because it has yet to be resolved. I was initially told the pin connector was too wide and was being replaced and the chip or computer was being updated, three days later I experience the same issue with my vehicle stalling out, I take it back in for servicing and was told that there was an update which caused the problem and then the very next day in rush hour traffic my vehicle cuts out on me. I am completely unhappy with the lack of service, care and concern from Chrysler. I have dated and timed paperwork from all three visits.

This is a huge inconvenience for me. I work full time and I am a student at Schoolcraft College. I spoke with the manager of Southfield Chrysler, Friday April 17, 2015 which was the third time that I took my vehicle in for the same problem and expressed to him to concerns and displeasure with the service. It clearly is something more than a pin connector or system update it is a deeper rooted problem that no one seems to want to take the time out to find.

My next step will be to take legal action and file a more formal complaint to shed light on the matter to the public because I am not the only person experiencing this problem. I have found other complaints online for the exact same thing and I am sure there are many more out there. Your company needs to be aware of this issue and take action before people start losing their lives because of it. I am paying a note on a car that I have not been able to drive for the past two weeks and honestly I do not feel safe or comfortable driving this vehicle anymore. I cannot express enough how dissatisfied I am with Chrysler.

Update from Apr 28, 2015: On April 22, 2015, I received a call from Jeff at Southfield Chrysler Service advising that a technician filed a complaint with Star and they were waiting for a response from them to advise how to proceed with fixing my car (whether they should replace harness or if Star was going to send an engineer out). Yesterday, April 27, 2015, after having my vehicle for 10 days I received another call from the rep/advisor at Southfield Chrysler Service that I could pick up my vehicle. He explained that they had to reroute the wiring harness, retested/ drove my vehicle and had no problems. I picked my vehicle up this morning and the report that they provided for the work done states "Trans wire harness rubbing on back side of trans case causing trans to lose signal and go into limp mode removed lower splash shield, removed upper air assemble and left front wheel and splash shields, also removed trans and engine mounts to gain access to trans wire harness repaired and rerouted wire harness per star case". I did ask for a copy of the complaint they submitted to Star or the contact number for Star but was told that was dealer information only but my case number is listed on the report given. I tested my vehicle as best as I could before I went to work and no problems thus far but it is too soon to say that the issue has been resolved, I will give it a week or so.

So, it all starts with me simply sitting at a four-way intersection trying to turn into BDubs to watch the Minnesota Wild playoff game. When taking a left hand turn, the car stops in THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION and completely shuts off!

Since cars now a-days are computers, all gears/nobs/levers remained jammed and the car would NOT turn on. The check engine light/maintenance light/every damn light was going off and the car wouldn't move. I had to rip out the panel under the bridge-like lower dashboard and pull an emergency release lever to get the car in neutral.

I brought the car to BARNETT CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP IN WHITE BEAR LAKE, MN and they did not give any help since I didn't buy the car from them. This includes a RENTAL CAR THAT IS EVEN COVERED IN MY POLICY IF ANY BS LIKE THIS HAPPENS.

So, after saying some terrible things to management, I had the car towed to the Stillwater dealership where they are (hopefully) addressing the issues today. I give a hats off to FURY DODGE in Stillwater, MN for being responsive and helpful throughout the whole process (especially the saleswoman Ryan who helped me). They gave me a free rental on the spot and am now wondering what the hell happened to my BRAND NEW CAR!!!!!!!!

Update from May 27, 2015: So ... it happened again and they still don't know what is wrong with it! Only this time I was driving and the car shut off while in drive and the brakes/steering wheel locked up and I was fortunate enough to not hit anyone (though close) or anything as I was driving in a parking lot. If they do not get back to me, a lemon law case will begin as this has happened multiple times with only 7,500 miles. Also, the car was in for an oil change/update 4 days before this last occurrence. All I want to do is drive my car without safety issues!!!

Update from May 27, 2015: So I just heard back and they said that oil seeped into my MAP Sensor, causing the vehicle to short out while driving. This oil does NOT produce a code when it is impacted so I would recommend if you have this problem to ask your mechanic to check that MAP Sensor for oil. Although I feel that this is a BS answer they gave me to buy time, I have to give it a shot before I sue for Lemon Law.

The most recent issue that I have had happened just last Friday, March 20th. On my way to the airport the screen started to flash several error messages and the car just stopped moving (in the middle of the road). Luckily I wasn't on the interstate when this happened otherwise you guys would be hearing about this on the news. Anyways, my first instinct was to hit the emergency brakes which I did and then once I was able to actually read the message my next instinct was to turn the car off and on however it was impossible to do that.

The message on the screen read "Service Trans Stop Safely Shut Off Engine to Engage Park" however the car would only switch from ACC to Run. All the gears were light up and the music and my Bluetooth was still operable. I opened the door thinking that the car would shut off then and it didn't, I held the door open as I held down the push to start button and nothing changed. I contacted Chrysler Roadside Assistance and they towed my car to the nearest dealership however it was only near to where the vehicle stopped which is nowhere close to where I live.

Anyways, the dealership contacted me on Saturday, March 21st to tell me that they were going to have the tech look at the vehicle and after calling back several times they finally told me that they were able to start the car however they received several error messages and they think it's the transmission and it might take them 2 weeks to fix however they couldn't be sure because their transmission guy wouldn't be in until Monday, March 23rd. This dealership is Don Jackson in Union City, GA.

I contacted Chrysler Customer Service Assistance today (March 23rd) in order to expedite the situation and they were no help at all. They told me they couldn't get in contact with the dealership and that I would have to file a reimbursement claim to get the money that I spent for a rental (the dealership refused to put me in a rental until the transmission guy looked at the car although they could clearly see that something is wrong with it since they got the error messages).

Chrysler also told me that until more people start complaining about this issue, they won't issue a recall so I guess someone has to dies first in order for them to start trying to fix the vehicles. Since that moment, I have contacted the state Consumer Protection dept in order to get some assistance from their side and I'm waiting for them to fix the vehicle before I file a Lemon Claim (Since I feel that this non-start/automatic stop is a serious defect I am only giving them one chance to fix it). Just wanted to share my experience with ya'll and see if anyone else is having the same issues because there are strengths in numbers.

Update from Mar 25, 2015: The dealership said that the issue was TCM related and they did something worth the star case however I do not feel safe in a vehicle that could stop running in the middle driving. I want to trade this car in as soon as possible :-(

So for the past few days whenever I make a hard right turn my car will ding at me, but no indicator lights come on. This is my first new car my last car was a 1995, so I just assumed it was some fancy notification.

This morning when I was pulling into the parking lot of my favorite coffee place the ding happened again but it was repeated. When I looked at the instrument cluster the battery indicator light was on. As I was pulling into my parking spot I could feel the wheel stiffen up. At the same time the gear on the cluster was blinking and so was the gear on the shifter knob. I was able to put the car in park and turn the car off after having to push the button a second time. Just because I wanted to make sure that I would be able to leave the parking lot I tired restarting the car again immediately and for the first time it took a few seconds for the engine to turn over. It had try a couple of times before the engine finally turned over. I turned the car off went in to get my coffee came back out and the car started just fine.

However after arriving at work I made a hard right turn onto the road I work on and the random ding happened again with no indicator light on the cluster. Many people tell me that it is just the lane assistance some sort of safety feature that comes with the car. I bought the base model it does not have any of the extra features nor does it have any after market items on it.

This worries me a great deal especially because I have only had the car for a little bit over a month and I bought it brand new. I needed a car that I could rely on and I trusted Chrysler to give me that. After reading other posts online I am starting to think that my trust may have been misplaced. I would love to hear from other owners that have had this issue and I pray that you tell me that it was an easy fix. I have not been to the dealership yet, but from what I have read most people's dealers just tell them that they could not recreate the problem and that nothing is wrong.

I just never expected to have these kinds of issues on a car that I have only had for a little over a month. I purchased it at the end of December, 2014. I would also love to hear from Chrysler, I wanted to support a beautiful American made car did I make a mistake Chrysler should I have chosen a foreign brand. What will you do to help the people that trusted you?

Update from May 8, 2015: Took my vehicle in for the 3rd time today after the car stalled 5 times on my way into work this morning, the dealership sent a tow truck to come and get my car. in a couple of hours the lady called me back and told me that they finally figured out what is wrong with my car. She said that there is something wrong with my engine assembly components. The oil in the vehicle is supposed to be making some sort of cycle but at somepoint in the cycle the oil completely burns up. So much so I went into them on Friday of last week and by Sunday there was no oil, it was bone dry. She said that they are basically going to have rebuild my whole engine assembly. Today is the 8th and she informed that I probably wont here back from her again until the 19th or 20th. So they will have my car for a couple of weeks but they are paying for a rental. Hopefully anyone else that is experiencing the same issues as me can learn from this post. I don't know if what they do will fix the issue but I certainly hope it does. As I told my friends, I love the car I love the way it looks, feels, and drives, but all of that means nothing if I can not depend on it when it really counts. I hope Chrysler starts to actually learn from their mistakes, I spent a lot of money on a new car so that I could be done with car stress atleast for a little while and that simply did not happen. if you have questions hit me up and I can tell you more about my experience.

I wanted a new car to be safe but was I wrong. I got my car brand new in November 2014 and it is a 2015 Chrysler 200 4door. I was happy until the son of the bitch turned off while I was driving. I was like I must have hit the gear so I pulled to the side of the road, turned off the car like the dash told me to, and press start and it started. So that happened twice but the 3rd time, which was on 1/12/2015, I was making a left hand turn and it did it again, but this time all the lights went on the gear nob and it started saying put the gear on park but I could not because it was stuck.

So I had to sit for about 30 minutes. What's gonna happen next time? I just might cause an accident and I'm scared because my daughter is having a baby and I need my car to be safe. Now I do not like driving it because it will happen again. So I called the dealership where I got it, gonna take it to see what they can do to fix it. I hope they don't give me any kind of excuse. If I'm paying for a 30,000 dollar car it f*cking better work the right way. So what can one do about this situation? Help please.
