Upon pulling into driveway consumer applied the brakes and the pedal began bucking. Consumer was not able to stop the vehicle, and it collided with parked vehicle. ABS warning light failed to warn consumer that a problem occurred. The problem was caused by rust developing on ABS sensors. The problem was more prevalent while driving between 5 to 10 mph.

Anti-lock brakes activate right before the truck comes to a complete stop. This increases the stopping distance by several feet. It happens very often and only happens during light braking never under heavy braking.

ABS module bad, no antilock brakes, the ABS light on dash is on constantly. Dealer says part is $800 and only availaible at GM. Same with fuel pump/sending unit, $350 only availiable GM, steering column knocks, both support cables on tailgate bad although recall coming too little too late, and the throttle body sticks are closed.

ABS occasionally failed due to water, dirt, and rust getting in the sensors. Consumer also complained of the engine knocking. He was then informed that the cause was carbon and the amount of clearance between the pistons and the cylinder wall. They redesigned the pistons for that reason.

My 2000 Chevy Silverado has a very dangerous ABS malfunction which caused a property damage accident with $2000 of damage. GM has been useless to me, this should be a recall item, and they refuse to fix it for free. The dealer I bought my truck at, romano Chevy in syracuse, stated that this is a common problem with 2000 Silverado. I have paid for many other repairs, but I feel that a defective braking system should be something that the manufacturer should fix for free and do a recall so that people don't get into an accident like I did. They want to sweep this under the rug. I have been corresponding with GM for a year with no progress, because they have absolutely no intention whatsoever of helping me. Thanks for your help. A recent repair was performed on my 2000 Silverado per a service bulletin to fix a problem that activates the anti-lock brakes at low speed conditions on dry pavement. The dealer instructed me that this problem will occur again in the future as the hardware wears / fails again and this will create another dangerous situation by not being able to stop in the same distance on dry pavement as with properly functional brakes. GM also says they have no plan at this time to recall vehicles for this problem.

I am having trouble with my 2000 Silverado ABS speed sensor and GM will not replace the sensor or fix the problem. This is a problem that is occurring on many trucks and seems to be something GM should consider having a recall on.

problem #101

Oct 032003

Silverado 3500 4WD 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 39,200 miles
While pulling into a parking spot with the truck I applied the brakes and the brake pedal went to the floor. The brakes did not slow the truck down at all and I was lucky to have a large enough curb and slow enough speed for it to stop. I brought the truck to the dealer and they diagnosed a failed electronic braking control module and front right ABS speed sensor. Afterwards the ABS was coming on at low speed when it shouldn't have been and the dealer subsequently replaced the front left ABS wheel sensor since it's output was out of specification. The fact the brakes completely failed due to bad computer parts is of real high concern to me and others around the vehicle due to the safety. The failure mode of the ABS computer components should never prevent vehicle braking. I filed a complaint with Chevy to have the failed parts analyzed as to how they could have resulted in a complete loss of braking. They have denied my request.

Silverado 3500 4WD

When applying the brakes brake pedal went down to the floor, and the vehicle experienced extended stopping distance. The dealer informed the consumer that the problem was with the antilock braking system, but did not specify the components that needed to be replaced. Also, the vehicle was only using the front brakes for a period of time because the rear brakes stopped operating. The rear brakes were replaced.

While driving on dry road, and traffic coming to a stop ahead I applied the brakes to stop. The brakes began to pump as if the ABS system was engaged increasing the stopping distance. I have had brake trouble with this vehicle since I purchased it. Once before the dealer found that the rear brakes were not working properly when stopping. The vehicle was stopping with only the front brakes, the rear brakes were not even working. My wife is scared to drive this vehicle, it only has 40,000 miles. What a shame to have a vehicle like this.

I own a 2000 Chevy Silverado 4X4. I have a continuing problem with the anti lock brake system. The truck has a problem stopping at slow speeds. When I depress the brake pedal at slow speed to stop the anti locks start to release as if the wheels were locking up. This causes me to either go thru the stop sign or to come very close to running into what ever is in front of me. The brakes eventually stop the truck but I have had some close calls. The truck has been to the dealer and had a right front wheel sensor replaced. This helped at first. The problem has started to surface again. I will have to make another visit to the dealer, which is very costly, $300 + per visit. This problem occurs without warning is very dangerous. Does the nhtsb plan on doing anything about this problem? I know of a coworker that has had the same problem and almost wreaked his truck. Thanks et.
