ABS system engages on dry road and or dry conditions and low speeds. This increases stopping distance greatly and could potentially cause a serious accident. This occurrs mostly when approaching a stop at 10 mph or below. The ABS engages unexpectedely and the vehicle continues to roll partly into the intersection or potentially into another vehicle.

The anti-lock braking system on the Chevrolet Silverado is too sensitive. I have had several incidents where the system activated when it should not have causing the vehicle to experience increased stopping distances.I consider this to be a major safety problem.I filed a complaint with your office several years ago, but have yet to see any action taken to correct this problem

problem #87

Jun 062001

Silverado 3500 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 30,000 miles

My brakes failed after accelerating from being stopped at a red light. The light turned yellow before we were into the intersection when the vehicle in front of me stopped, speed was less than 10 mph. I attempted to stop on a bumpy dry surface while braking the pedal went to the floor and hit the vehicle in front of me. Dealership claims brakes were within specifications set by manufacture. Something needs to be done about this problem, there are too many complaints dealing with the ABS system on the Silverado. Please do something to correct this problem.
