This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
When shifting the vehicle out of park, if the tilt steering wheel is in the full up position, and the shift lever is pulled fully rearward so as to shift out of park, then the shift lever will hit and be stopped from moving by the ignition key. If you force the situation by pulling back and down with more than normal force, the key and key switch takes quite an abnormal load from the shift lever. I reported this to the local dealer and was told that this is normal, because someone else had reported the same problem. This is not normal. There is an easy solution to this problem. The handle part of the ignition key needs to be shorter. If this situation is not fixed, I fear that the ignition key switch assembly will eventually take damage.
