This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
There is a high effort at the gas pedal on when the vehicle is cold. Sometimes this effort is so great that when backing or in a parking lot, I must apply force then the vehicle lurches forward. This has been happening for a number of years since I purchased the vehicle new in October of 1999.
: the contact stated the accelerator pedal sticks intermittently at no particular speed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealership twice for repairs. However, they did not remedy the problem. Also, there was a problem with the power steering pump. The steering pump fractured which resulted in immediate loss of hydraulic power assist. The hydro-boost power braking was increased after the braking assist was depleted. There is a NHTSA recall, # 05V005000, regarding the power steering pump. The vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it is not included in the recall due to the VIN. The vehicle was taken to the dealership for repairs.
I am writing to seek some assistance with an inferior product produced by GM. I have a Chevy 2000 Silverado Z71 pick up that has piston slap starting at around 15K miles and progressively worsened which the dealer states is normal wear. This expensive vehicle also has a rear end bang into drive and then reverse again the dealer states is normal. Recently I fixed a snapped cable for the drivers window which the same kind of cable was recalled for the tail gate cables. I have replaced recall items for the tail gate cables, drive shaft yolk and the ABS sensors to which it is still not functioning properly. All of which when presented to the dealer and the response was it is normal, until the recall occurred. It seems the policy of a company which creates an inferior product is to state, "it is normal" to the consumer until the government steps when enough people complain and makes the dealer own up to the problems with the products and finally treats the consumer with more compassion, and to some degree "decency". with the many problems with this vehicle the government needs to step in and help the consumer with the dealership resistance to fix the problems caused by more concern for profit than quality.
The ongoing problem that I am experiencing is with the accelerator pedal. After the truck has been parked for a brief period of time and only when first starting out ; I have to apply excessive pressure to make the pedal go down. It seems as if it is stuck. This can be quite unnerving when parked in close proximity to other vehicles. I have to tap it firmly and quickly so as not to maintain pressure on the accelerator and accelerate unnecessarily. This is an intermittent problem but is becoming more common as the vehicle ages. * incident date does not apply to this complaint based on the fact that it is an ongoing occurrence.
The brakes are not working properly. The ABS system is being engaged when you stop and increases the stopping distance. The accerator sticks. You have to push hard and then all of a sudden it make the truck leap forewark or backward.

While applying the accelerator pedal consumer stated that he had to apply more then normal pressure to get the vehicle to move. The dealer was not notified.
The accelerator pedal sticks when starting out, causing too much throttle and surging when the pedal finally breaks free. This is especially dangerous in traffic or when roads are slick.
Accelerator sticks in idle positions and requires great force to depress resulting in the vehicle lunging forward or backwards depending on gear selection...extremely dangerous situation when in tight areas. Throttle body was replaced while still under warranty, but same problem has reaccurred. This is a problem that GM should correct, as it obviously is not an isolated problem.
Fuel throttle hang-up since purchase in 2000. Dealership performed carbon cleaning 3 times however issue does not rectify. Must "pop" at the fuel pedal in order to get the vehicle moving thus causing a lurching forward of vehicle. No further help offered by dealership or Chevy corporate but to continue to have carbon cleaning ($85/service).
Problems with steering, gas pedal sticks, speedometer rattles when it's cold, rear doors are hard to latch when it's cold, heating and ventilation system and lights blew out, speaker blewout. Cc: NHTSA
While driving 40 mph consume R applied the accelerator pedal and it became stuck. Then, consumer applied the accelerator pedal several times and vehicle suddenly accelerated. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and contacted the dealer. Mechanic determined that the throttle body needed to be replaced.
At 36,900 miles I had the rear and front pinion berrings replaced on my drive train. I also replaced the tires which were worn out. The vehicle is not driven much (4.5 years old) as indicated by the mileage. I also experienced my accelorator being "stiff" when I attempt to depress it. I think GM needs to look into their shoddy transmission components. I also had the rear seal replaced at approximately 10,000 miles.
ABS module bad, no antilock brakes, the ABS light on dash is on constantly. Dealer says part is $800 and only availaible at GM. Same with fuel pump/sending unit, $350 only availiable GM, steering column knocks, both support cables on tailgate bad although recall coming too little too late, and the throttle body sticks are closed.
The accelerator is sometimes very difficult to press down. When it finally does, it causes a sudden lurching of the vehicle. This is a very dangerous situation.
Today and everyday my throttle locks up when attempting to accelerate from a stop. I have had many close calls when trying to maneuver through traffic. I live in a very large city and it is very important to be able to go when you need to. I have nearly been hit trying to stomp on the accelerator when it doesn't respond and I am trying to move into oncoming traffic. I have also nearly ran into many objects moving, and stationary, becouse of the sudden acceleration when the throttle finally decides to let loose. Why won't GM stand behind their products and repair this" is it going to take another Firestone tire type fiasco to get a recall"
Sticking gas pedal. Throttle body problem causes gas pedal to stick. When at a stop, a lot of pressure is often required to move pedal. Pedal "unsticks" and causes vehicle to lurch forward or backward. At highway speeds, "unsticking" causes truck to accelerate at a faster rate than intended. Chevy dealer replaced throttle body once (45K miles), but problem has returned (80K miles).
Accelerator pedal sticks. When I place vehicle into gear I must apply pressure to accelerator to release it. Subsequently it releases suddenly in a way which causes sudden acceleration. When conditions are icy this common problem will eventually get someone killed. Chevy should recall.
Consumer called complaining about having throttle problems. While driving throttle will stick to the floor. It doesn't happened all the time, but he is afraid that may cause him to get into an accident. Manufacturer5 was not dcontacted. Dealer was contacted, and stated that GMC ha addressed the issue. But it would cost the consumer if it was not broken, and the warranty will not replace it unless broken.
