This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Chevrolet has denied that their 99 and 00 Chevrolet Silverado do not have a problem with thier new engines. I know of numerous other owners who have this problem which Chevrolet acknowledges as a normal sound. I have been told by the dealer that the truck can not be fixed because the new ones make the same noise. I have driven other compriable trucks and they do not have the engine ping/knock. The dealer also said that the noise will eventually go away, but I have seen trucks with 19000 with the noise continuing. This problem could increase emmisions if it is indeed a ping/knock. If this problem persists with no fix from Chevrolet, I could have enginge damage caused by the ping/knock that will not be covered by the warranty. Thank you for your time.
