While traveling at 30 mph, consumer pressed brakes to avoid hitting a deer and vehicle started to slide. Consumer states ABS locked up. Driver and passenger sustained injuries, passenger sustained injury to vocal cord due to seatbelt failure.
I already filled out a vehicle owner's questionnaire to send through the mail with my signature to authorize NHTSA to provide a copy of the report to the manufacturer. Reference no. 8008990. I included a copy of a recall notice on the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The recall states: Light duty pickup trucks equipped with 4-wheel disc brakes. Some of these vehicles have an ABS motor containing an out-of-specification spring clip. This clip could allow the motor bearing to become misaligned. If misalignment occurs, eventually the ABS would be non-functional. The base brakes would remain functional, but the dynamic rear proportioning system (drp), which optimizes front to rear brake balance, would become inoperative. This is the same malfunction my 1999 Silverado 1500 has. The ABS systems are identicle in the 1999 and 2000 Silverado. The replacement part number is the same for a 1999 and a 2000. I don't believe this is a coincidence, that this part has failed in my 1999, when in fact this is the same part in the 2000's that were recalled.

Gas pedal sticks every time you start the truck, which makes you lunge forward or backwards every time you drive. I have read numerous complaints on this situation & I think it should be recalled. The ABS system went out and when I took it to the shop they said it was very common for the Chevrolet, Silverado to do that, I think it should be checked on too.
ABS brake boxes failing. Causes box to run with the ignition switch turned off. Fuse must be removed to cut power to box. When power is cut ABS system no longer is in service. Boxes are not replaced at manufactures expense if vehicle is out of warranty. Cost is extremely high for consumer, $1000 to $1400. This problem is occurring with Chevrolet and GMC trucks equipped with ABS brakes. This situation creates a fire hazard, a braking hazard and economic hardship on the consumer.
Electronic braking control module, which is part of the ABS brake system, malfunctioned, resulting in lack of ABS brakes. Also caused battery to drain within 12 hours with vehicle turned off. Consumer disconnected fuse for ABS brakes to prevent battery drain, the motor continues to run after the vehicle is turned off.
