Shortly after purchasing my 2010 Silverado a small crack appeared on the dash by the corner of the passenger air bag. A month or so later another crack developed above the instrument cluster that is now (years later) a foot in length. There is a 3rd crack developing. I have 3 friends with similar trucks and these cracks occurred in the identical spot on their dashs. It has to be a risk to the airbag, or in any front impact. These cracks are sharp and right in the driver and passengers face. After searching online I have discovered it is a widespread issue.
My dash on my truck has cracks in the dash by the airbag and above the gauge cluster. I am worried if Chevrolet does not do a voluntary recall on this there is a chance that the airbag may not function properly.
I have cracks on my passenger side airbag, and over my instrument cluster. This is a well known issue, and I'm sure that if my airbag went off, the plastic would become shrapnel.
The dashboard around the instrument cluster as well as the passenger side airbag has developed large cracks due to poor made products or poor manufacturing processes. Due to the explosive nature of the airbags as well as the location of the cracks on the dashboard, I fear the airbag will go off in a front end collision causing sharp plastic pieces from the dashboard to unnecessarily injure me and/ or my passengers.

Plastic dash has cracks around airbag and above steering column. If I was to have a accident and the airbag deployed there would be plastic shrapnel deployed throughout the vehicle.
Cracks have formed along the dash board on both the driver and passenger side without any sort of event happening that would lead the cracks forming such as an accident, etc. The cracks on the passenger side are around the passenger airbag that seems to be an safety issues if the airbag deploys. The cracks lead to sharp edges that could either break off and cause sharp plastic pieces to fly at the passenger in the event of airbag deployment or the sharp edges may puncture the airbag causing it to not perform as needed to protect the passenger. After talking to the Chevrolet body shop and reading several other complaints, this issue is common not only in the Silverado but according to the body shop manager, it stretches across all GM platforms such as the escalade.
Dashboard cracked on driver side and runs over to air bag on passenger side if air bag deploys cracked dash could deflate air bag my dealer nor General Motors would help said they would fix for $1100 dollars this is a safety defect
Both side air bags deployed without an impact or accident while driving down the highway. GM has been no help in the matter, and cannot find an explanation as to why the airbags would deploy.
My dash was fine on 6-10-15, when got in it on the morning of 6-11-15 the dash was cracked by the airbag. The vehicle is 5 years old but only has 54,000 miles. I am the only owner and it has been well maintained. This seems to be a very frequent problem that is occurring with Chevrolet vehicles. See the following site: Https://www.facebook.com/groups/gmdashcrack/"fref=nf this appears to be a flaw in the quality of materials used in these vehicles. Not only does it take away from the appearance and value of the vehicle, it is also a safety concern. Will the airbag still work properly? if in an accident will there be flying pieces of plastic because of the flawed cracked equipment" this should be something that GM takes care of for its customers 100%.
My son was driving my newly purchased 2010 Chevy Silverado 1500 Z71 offroad vehicle. He had pulled off the roadway momentarily, and upon pulling back onto the pavement and beginning to get up to speed, the side curtain air bags deployed and the vehicle shut down. He was able to restart it and drove about 50 feet when it shut down again. Of course, all the components to the air bags were in the cabin and he jumped out of the truck where he was stopped and was able to look over the situation. He contacted me and since he was only 31/2 miles from our home, I drove to the location. The air bags were hanging, and the passenger seat belt was locked tight. He had his seat belt on and it was hanging. He said he hadn't hit anything, had just pulled back onto the pavement and the bags went off. The truck eventually was able to be restarted and he drove it home. The deployment cracked the head liner and I have had an estimate to repair the damage and fix the air bags, a total of $4800 that my insurance won't cover due to the fact there were no injuries because there was no accident. Why are there so many instances of this happening nationwide? now I am out almost $5000 for something beyond my control as the dealership where I purchased it won't help either.
While on my way to the cancer centers of America located in atlanta, I noticed the oil gauge needle kept moving below the middle, when I returned home took to Chevy dealership that changed sensor and gasket kit. Still having problem with vehicle. Chevy dealer stated that, that's what the needle does...I've had the oil changed and still same problem.....I also noticed that when you turn on the 4X4 button it doesn't show the 4X4 emblem on the dash board.....also addressed with dealer they said it doesn't show on dash board...another problem that just happened is that it's stating to service air bag...I own a Chevy trail Blazer 2004 and have never had these problems not with oil gauges, seat belt sensors nor 4X4 emblems on the dash.....my husband and I bought the vehicle on Nov 2014 with 96,000 miles on it the Chevy dealer here says that these are normal....I feel that these are not normal, because you don't know if you have oil in the truck, the air bag is faulty and can't tell if your driving on 4X4....please check into these things....I appreciate your attention.
About two years into owning this truck, (purchased brand new from dealer), the dashboard cracked at the corner of the passenger side airbag. There was no incident which caused the dashboard to crack. Nothing hit it, no accident, etc. This is a potential hazard and it seems to be a recurring problem for many Chevrolet owners. I took it in to the dealer and they said it wasn't covered by any warranty. How is it okay for GM to know about a defect with many of their vehicles and not have to assume responsibility for fixing it??
The vehicle has been in for repairs several times (3 -4 times in the last 3 years) due to faulty parts or connections related to the air bag system. The previous repairs were related to air bag components in the passenger seat. The service air bag light is again on and the problem this time has not been diagnosed.
Letter from congressman wittman on behalf of constituent re airbags that did not deploy. 2010 Chevrolet Silverado. The consumer was involved in an accident. As a result, she sustained a brain injury.
The dash is cracked on the passenger side next to the top left corner next to the passenger air bag panel. My fear is if this air bag is deployed shards of plastic will become shrapnel and injure my front seat passenger.
Noticed a crack on dashboard next to the upper left corner of the passenger side airbag. A few weeks later noticed another crack in the dashboard next to the lower left corner of the passenger side airbag. My concern that if the airbag deploys it could be punctured by the sharp edges of one of these cracks. Would like it replaced at no cost to me due to faulty design.
I notified GM @just over29,000 that service airbag light came on then it would go out my warranty ended 2months never been in a crash trying to get them to pay obvious defect.
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the side air bags deployed independently. The manufacturer was notified and sent an investigator to further inspect the vehicle. After the investigation, it was determined that there was an instability issue. The manufacturer offered no further assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 34,000.
