Bought a used 2014 Silverado 1500 4X4 with 22K miles and one previrus owner. I had no issues at first but the dealer made me aware of a recall GM had out where they would reprogram the power steering to prevent a possible issue of power steering loss at slow speeds. I took the truck in to the Chevy dealer and had the "reprogram" done. After that I started having a popping in the steering column at extremely low speed or while stationary when the wheel was turned. A few months later the popping stopped and one evening I start my truck and the electric power steering is not working. The next day I start my truck and the power steering is working fine. I run an errand and as I'm coming home the power steering goes out while I'm turning at a slow speed also nearly causing a wreck with another car. Dealer won't admit to the problem being a part of the recall because of the lift on my truck and then over quoted me by $500 for the fix ($2900 total and $2200 for the part). Just had a new rack and pinion installed for $2535.11 and the part alone was $1859 from another dealer. The mechanic told me the part has since (the recall) been "remanufactured" which leads me to believe that GM realized there was a problem and they fixed it quietly on the assembly line rather than make it right with their customers.

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving approximately 25 mph, the steering ability became more difficult and the 'stability track" message flashed. The contact stopped in a parking lot and turned off the vehicle. After approximately two hours, the vehicle was restarted and operated normally. The vehicle was driven to the contact's residence. The dealer was not contacted and the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000.

On March 1, 2018, I was driving my 2014 Silverado. When I made a turn my power steering did not work. My vehicll has 51,000 miles. The dealership had previously fixed a recall issue related to power steering, but informed me that this repair would cost $2500 and was not covered. GM agreed with the dealership and offered $1000 towards the repair.

The stabilitytrack will flash on and make the steering wheel very difficult to steer or while turning the steering wheel will jerk out of my hand and not let me maneuver the way I want to. At the same time the truck will briefly lose all power disabling everything. This has happened in parking lots as well as everyday city and highway driving and at all speeds from as slow as 5mph to as fast as 70mph. There has 2 times after this happens that I turn the truck off to try to restart it, the truck will be completely dead. Not even the hazard lights will come on. There are other times where I will lose all power to my radio and driver info center and it stays black until I restart the truck a few times. I have taken it to the dealership now 4 separate times now and every time they say its something new. I have paid a little over $800 so far and it is still happening. I am now waiting to hear back from GM/Chevy to see what they can do, but looking at what I have already dealt with it I am not optimistic. I have read other complaints about this and I am afraid that its only a matter of time that I will not be able to recover my steering and I will get in an accident with my family in the truck.

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the vehicle was serviced per NHTSA campaign number: 17V414000 (steering) in August of 2017. During the service, the eps module software was updated per the recall remedy. The vehicle later began to experience power steering failures while driving at very low speeds. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer (furman Chevrolet of brandon, 9751 adamo dr. Tampa, fl) where it was diagnosed that the steering wheel failures were due to a faulty steering wheel sensor. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. I had my 3 month old daughter in the vehicle with me at the time that I lost control on my 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. I was turning and the wheel began to turn on its own and was hard to control. The internal computer kept switching on and off as if it had a mind of its own. I was inches away from hitting another vehicle and being at fault of an accident, not to mention the danger my daughter was in. I was able to avoid impact with another vehicle but I hit a sidewalk damaging the bottom left side on my bumper. I will never again make another Chevrolet purchase, and put my daughters life in danger.

Truck dash will flicker and cause stabletrak to disable, and then steering assist says limited. Radio will change stations when this happens, and the steering wheel will lock up and is unable to be turned. Has happened several times while we're on the highway. It's when we're in motion, has happened while trying to park, going on a back road, and on the highway. While in park, we can hear occasional clicking coming from inside the dash. It's been occurring since October, but was really bad on December 22nd. Have a video of one of the occurrences, but not sure how to upload it.

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the eps failed to function and the eps warning indicator flashed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer (bell and bell Buick GMC trucks, 2491 hwy 9 E, little river, SC 29566, (888) 538-9417) who provided the manufacturer remedy for NHTSA campaign number: 17V414000 (steering); however, the remedy failed to provide a solution concerning the eps software update (reprogramming). The dealer later stated that the eps motor needed to be replaced. The manufacturer provided no solution other than indicating that the part needed to be replaced. There was a steering recall for NHTSA campaign number: 14V719000 (steering), but they had not addressed the recall for the 2014 models. The failure mileage was not available.

While making a left turn into my driveway on a city street going approximately 10 mph, my steering wheel suddenly jerked to the left out of my hand, and the entire vehicle went dead (lost all power, lights, etc.). because the steering wheel locked, I was unable to turn fully into my driveway. As a result, the bed of the truck was sticking out into a major road and I was almost hit by cars coming around the curve by my driveway. It was dark and rainy. I called someone for help and we pushed the truck out of the roadway as best as possible, considering that the steering wheel was still locked. The truck would not restart. All power was gone. The only way I could think to move the truck was to jump start it with another vehicle. After jumpstarting the truck, the dash info system displayed, "action required: Open then close driver window." This is the 2nd time this happened after Chevy dealership performed recall 17276 "temporary loss of electrical power steering (eps) service (during low speed steering maneuvers). There is a tsb out alluding to this issue: #pit5405C: Steering jerks or kicks back / reduced power steering assist / engine stall, etc. (Jan 27, 2017). Why is there no recall"?" this is a major safety issue and could have been deadly!

Power steering fails during a turn along with the engine stalling and all electrical power being shut down. Steering becomes very difficult each time this happens. It is an intermittent issue. But it is a safety issue every time it happens. A google search yields many, many similar reports. Why has this not been addressed? it is Dec 2017 and many of these dangerous vehicles are still not fixed by GM.

Noticed an issue at about 70000 miles where turning left at low speeds under 10 mph there is a sound clunk in the steering. It is easily reputable and happens often regardless of direction, reverse or forward drive. The dealer said it is a failure of the steering rack, and it needs replaced. $1800 for the part and $3 hours of install brings the repair to $2400 for a 3 year old truck. I noticed many other complaints of the same description. Dealer states that the rack needs to be replaced and wouldn't recommend driving it until repaired. I asked what could happen if it failed completely and if this was related to any other recalls. They said complete steering loss and they would not speculate on recalls associated to this failure
