This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
While driving at a low rate of speed, when the brakes are firmly applied, the vehicle keeps moving although it feels as is the pedal has pressure at first. After about a second, the pedal starts to pulsate as if the ABS is working, yet the vehicle does not slow effectively and it sounds as if there is a grinding coming from the wheels. This has happened on several occasions. The dealer was made aware of the problem, but claimed that they checked the system out and nothing was wrong. After 17000 miles I still have the problem occasionally when braking firmly.
Consumer was traveling at approximately 60 mph when traffic slowed ahead of him. Consumer attempted to apply brakes to slow vehicle down. There was resistance behind brake pedal, but brake system failed to engage, causing him to rear end a vehicle in front of him.
The rear ABS system when it hits a small bump in the road the ABS system removes almost all brake pressure allowing the pedal to fall down and dramatically increasing stopping distance-this could have easily caused a wreck and has happened on multiple occasions. My dealer said it was normal and refuses to look at it-but no other GM vehicle with ABS that I have has had this problem.
On four occasions when applying brakes pedal would go to floor and jump back up, causing loss of braking. Vehicle been in dealer's shop on two occasions, and nothing could be found.
Driving home from work. Came up to intersection with stop light. Light changed to red and tried to apply brakes.brake pedal went all the way to floor and vehicle would not stop. Vehicle ran thru red light and intersection narrowly missing collision with other vehicle.road surface dry and clear. Temp approx 35. Contacted dealership and they said no problem. This is the second occurence of this type since I've owned the vehicle. Cannot continue to drive with no confidence in brakes. Fortunately no injuries or fatalities have occured however this condition is a time bomb waiting to go off.
Consumer took vehicle to dealership for recall notice 00V345000. Dealership informed consumer that there were no parts available, and to drive vehicle as it was. Please provdie any additional information/attachments.
When driving at any speed and upon depressing brake pedal to make a normal stop, brakes slightly catch. Brake pedal goes to floorboard, causing extended stopping distance. Brakes kick in, causing vehicle to come to a skided stop. Consumer has contacted dealer, dealer unable to determine cause of problem.
Went to the store. The brakes was fine had a hard pedal. Came back out started the truck. Put foot on the brake pedal. The pedal went to the floor. The ABS light came on. Put the truck in reverse truck started to back up. Put truck back in park. Called GM. Put the truck in the shop. The pedal went to the floor with little pressure over the weekend. GM says no problem found and showed me another truck about like mine had the same problem. I drove several other trucks had hard pedal on them. I think there is a problem with these trucks and will not take mine back unless they address the problem. They are saying that nothing is wrong and was not wrong. Although I have 7 witnesses to the problem. Please help before someone gets hurt in these trucks. Thank you.
Since first day it has been hard to stop, then, it got harder and harder, took vehicle to dealer in June of 2000, and they could not find cause. Consumer stated it was also hard to steer.
On several ocations the anti-lock system has activated for no reason. This has happened on dry roads and no panic bracking was envolved. When the system activates, breaking distances become much greater than normal, thus necessating corrective action to avoid a collission.
Vehicle experiencing problem with delay in stopping distance when applying brake on wet snow road conditions. Dealer / manufacturer were not notified at this time. The consumer indicated that the sudden loss of braking when the ABS engages was frightening and dangerous.
After starting vehicle applied brake to get ready to back out of parking space and pedal went to floor, and vehicle continued backwards. ABS light was on, had vehicle towed to dealer, who said brakes were fine. Chevrolet company told consumer that was how brakes acted in a vehicle with ABS. Consumer test drove 10 other vehicles like it at dealers, all 10 had brakes that did not go to floor. Brakes worked on consumer's vehicle, but pedal went to floor before there was any braking action.
Pulled into a parking lot and parked. Then, consumer pumped brake pedal and it went to the floor, there were no brakes. Consumer put vehicle in gear and it started to roll backwards. Took to dealer, and they said it was normal for brakes to go to the floor.
While applying brakes and pulling into garage brake pedal went down to floor, causing vehicle to damage front bumper and hood. Dealer notified. The dealer couldn't find problem.
While at a stop and about to accelrate vehicle shutters intermittently. When braking and letting off brake pedal about 50 %, and pressing brakes again, vehicle will lunge forward which may cause a crash. Dealer cannot determine the cause.
While traveling 10-15 mph driver tried to stop, brakes failed and vehicle struck a steel pipe. Vehicle damage did occur. Driver only passenger. Brake pedal went all the way to the floor. No prior warnings before incident.
