The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop, yet the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number: 03V327000 (exterior lighting:hazard flashing warning lights:switch). She contacted the manufacturer who advised her that her vehicle was not included in the recall. Also, the contact stated that after refueling the vehicle, the vehicle would become slow to respond to the contact's attempts to accelerate. I have replaced my tail light bulbs numerous times as well now the entire bulb panel once on each side. The design and the seal allows for water to enter and hold water in the covering/reflectors which in turn cause rusting and blown bulbs. At this point I now need a whole new wiring harness due to the water damage on the passenger side as well as another new bulb panel. I have many friends whom also have the same cars who can not keep tail lights working either. I notice as I drive around many, many others on the road have no visible lights I would have to guess for the same reason. I am pulled over by the police frequently for this as well. I have not been issued a citation yet as I have a spoiler, rear window, and both break lights that are working. This is definitely a design problem and have been told this by many mechanics over the years. This should be corrected to potentially reduce accidents due to lack of rear lights and owners not knowing they have gone out or being unable to repair. The seals are poor and hold bowls of water constantly in the covers. I often see the problem in the passenger side as well as mine. Unsure if this in common or just my observation.

My 2000 Chevy Malibu, VIN [xxx] recently began having intermittent turn signal failure. Sometimes the turn signals work, and sometimes they don't. recall 03V327 did not apply to my VIN, and a special program Chevy implemented, described in NHTSA action # RQ04005 applied to my car but expired in February 2010. Under this program, GM replaced failed switches for free. They refuse to do this for me now, as the program has expired. The recall doesn't expire, but the program does. As this acknowledged defect is exactly the same as the issue of the recall, why is there an allowed expiration for the remedy??! this makes no sense, and is adverse to public safety! information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Malibu

After driving for a few minutes, suddenly without warning, the turn signals stopped working, so I stuck my arm out the window to try to compensate for the lack, I tried to use emergency flashers and they did not work either. Every day that I drive, the turn signals work for about 15 minutes then stop (even the emergency flashers stop working). I contacted the Chevy recall # 800-630-2438 and spoke to daniel who told me that the recalls are VIN specific and that my car was not included in those VIN #'s and that I have to pay to have it fixed.

Driving from queens to brooklyn, NY and suddenly without warning, the turn signals stopped working, so I stuck my arm out the window to try to compensate for the lack. Every day that I drive, the turn signals work for about 15 minutes then stop (even the emergency flashers stop working). I've taken the car to mechanics who are as stumped as I was (until today) when I saw the NHTSA.dot recall and investigation list which included my car 2000 Chevy Impala.

Turn signals inoperable. Flasher inoperable. This makes it impossible to alert other drivers of intent to turn or change lanes causing a dangerous situation. I was told there has already been a recall by the Chevrolet representative. The recall was for the turn signals and hazard switch and both have been replaced by a previous owner at 70000 mi. Under the previous recall. I am now having the same problem at 172000 mi. And was told it is now not their responsibility.

The turn signals started working intermittent, then quit. This was a recall a couple of years ago, and it was related to the hazard warning switch. My car was taken to the dealership and the switch was replaced. Unfortunately, this is a repeat and was not covered under the recall. The switches are still going bad and not covered. My instrument panel was destroyed internally when my switch was replaced and this damage was discovered during the last replacement in which I replaced the switch on my own since it was not covered.

I own a 2000 Chevy Malibu and I owned it since 2007 July...since then I have had problems with my hazard lights and signal lights...when I would be driving my car I would use my signal to turn left or right and it would make a crackle sound and stop working completley I would then try to use my hazard they would do the same thing make a crackle sound and not work..also with my headlights my problem with them is they work when they want to and when they do work they stay on even when my car is completely off am talking keys out of the engine and everything I would have to pop my hood and move around the fuses till the car lights finally turn off..I have taken my car into the dealership were I bought my car and all they did was give me a hardtime told me there was nothing wrong with my car and that my VIN# is not on the recall list...but there is a recall on 2000 Chevy Malibu about there hazardlights signal lights and headlights not only that the NHTSA dose not say anything about specific VIN# for the recalls it jus says that this is recalls on 2000 Chevy Malibu.

My turn signals fail to work. I have to commute an hour to school everyday on a crowded highway and I have almost got into several accidents because I have to merge with no blinkers. Called the dealership and said my car was not part of the recall, but I have the same problem and the same make and model of the recall. Very annoying, I don't have $300 to fix my blinkers.

Malibu

  • 42,668 miles
The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the hazard lights and turn signals would function intermittently. She could never pinpoint when they would malfunction. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on several occasions; however, the lights functioned properly each time and they could not duplicate the failure. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer regarding NHTSA campaign id number 03V327000 (exterior lighting:hazard flashing warning lights:switch) and they installed a new switch. The remedy corrected the issue; however, the failure recurred in the latter part of 2008. The dealer stated that the repair would be at the contact's expense again because the recall repair had previously been performed. In addition, the heater did not work. The manufacturer has not been notified. The current mileage was 62,902 and failure mileage was 42,668.
