Car has a condition where a fuel odor is detected, fuel droplets appear below the left-hand fuel tank with fuel gauge level above 1/2, or a malfunction indicator lamp illuminates.
On Sunday afternoon I filled my 2008 Corvette with gas. I only filled it until the pump clicked off.I was already aware overfilling is not good for the car nor is it a safe practice. I drove about 25-30 miles before returning home. Everything seemed fine until the following morning when I went out to my garage. The smell of gas was overpowering. I immediately opened both doors in the garage to allow it to air out. I then checked the gas cap. I checked for any leaks but couldn't find any. I called my mechanic and reluctantly drove 2 blocks to have it looked at. He spent about 2 hours looking the car over but couldn't find any leaks. He then called his contacts at the local Chevrolet dealer. He was told that this was a common problem with the car. He asked if Chevrolet had issued any safety recalls and we were both very shocked that although Chevrolet is very aware of the problem they don't think there customers safety is worth taking away from the bottom line. This repair is going to cost $2700. That's bad enough but can you imagine if I had been rear ended or T- boned after filling up ? I'm thinking there could have been an explosion resulting in serious injury or even death. To think that Chevrolet is fully aware of this problem and refuses to fix the problem is infuriating. I couldn't smell the fuel when I was driving, only after I had parked in the garage. I also could only detect a very slight odor when it was parked outside at the mechanics shop the following day. After the mechanic dropped the tank and shield you could clearly see fluid marks were the gas was leaking. At the very least Chevrolet could inform their customers. Perhaps like me they would choose to repair it, assuming they could afford it, rather than being trapped in a burning car. Customers like me rely on organizations like you to force companies like Chevrolet to do the right thing
My 2008 Corvette has a strong odor of gas fumes that fills my garage.. I have to leave my garage door up about 2' and the side door open to get the fumes out.. this started a week ago when I filled the tank up..
After filling the fuel tank on my 2008 Chevy Corvette a strong smell of gasoline filled the garage after parking it. I took it to a auto repair shop and they told me the fuel tank was leaking. I've read where other Corvette owners have had this problem. Very dangerous situation.

Fuel leak. Can smell fuel when car is parked in garage. Fuel smell leaks into vehicle cabin and into attached house. This problem is believed to be caused by a broken fitting on the fuel pump module, located on the top of the fuel tank. GM did a service bulletin 17469, but this only covers vehicles less than 10 years old. This problem may present itself on vehicles that are older than ten years, it just depends on how long it takes for the plastic fuel pump fitting to deteriorate.
The odor of fuel can be smelled while outside and inside the vehicle. The smell is coming from the drivers side rear wheel area. Research online shows that GM used faulty fuel pumps/seals. This is a very dangerous fault.
Terrible gas fumes smell when I fill tank over half full! fumes even inside car when windows closed and when garaged the smell is so strong I think a open flame would cause an explosion! this has gone on for several years and not gotten fixed because of reported cost and I think GM should fix. I think this is a health and danger hazard and would hope GM would do the right thing and fix this on my 2008 Corvette.
After filling the gas tank, gas and/or vapor is leaking from the tank. If I park the car in the garage it soon fills completely with a strong gas smell. I believe this is a fire hazzard.
Fuel fumes and leakage from the left fueltank. Started during the spring of 2019 without any incident or mechanical chenge/ repair in the area. Noticed fuel leakage on the left side of the left tank. First appeared after taking the car out of the garage and reparking it in the garage again.
Just bought this 2008 C6 Corvette coupe. Only 50K miles. Severe fuel smell when gas tank is 1/2 or more full. Parked in garage without engine being on for more than a full day, and the gas smell is so overwhelming, the smell permeated through the walls and into the house. Cannot park in the garage.
Filled gas tank to full & had strong gas odors inside & outside vehicle. Gas & gas smell coming from exhaust when car is started & running. Dealer identified left side fuel pump module needs to be replaced.
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated that there was an abnormal odor of fuel emerging from the vehicle. The contact also noticed fuel leaking from the fuel tank area and the check engine indicator was illuminated. The local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 81,000.
Consistent fuel smell coming from vehicle. Can no longer park the car in the garage in fear of starting a fire and burning the house down and potentially killing my family as it sits next to water heater. Gas smell comes from when vehicle is stationary in the garage and there are no visible leaks (spots or puddles underneath the car)
The gas fumes leak into the cockpit and smell up the car so bad it makes you dizzy and smell up the entire garage, worse is the fact that 2 dealers in my area still have not figured out how to correct it, this is dangerous and needs a class act filed against manufacture.
After I park my 2008 Corvette inside, there is a strong smell of gasoline. I understand it is probably from a fuel leak at the top of the fuel tank on the driver's side. I thought it was because I might have over filled the tank, but I do not "top off" the tank. Most recently, I filled the tank, then drove over 100 miles. The smell is still there. This could potentially be a major health/fire hazard.
