Driving down the road and power steering suddenly stops with a warning. Thankfully no traffic this morning but was extremely hard to steer to get home. So unfortunate all the complaints about this for 2016 with GM only indicating 2015 recall for this issue. 2016 should also be included!

Colorado truck has been experiencing intermittent failure of power steering system for several weeks. This has occurred on start up and also while vehicle is moving. The problem may resolve temporarily on its own and then recur at another time. Watson Chevrolet evaluated this problem on 9/28/22 and found -??DTC UO420 42 Which states that the power steering control module was not properly calibrated, causing the electronic brake control module to lose communication with it. Reprogram the PSCM. Condition is no longer present.-?? The problem reccurred while driving on September 30, 2022. Chevy dealership has been notified and the vehicle will be taken back in for further evaluation.

My steering lost power assist. Very hard to turn the steering wheel. I could not park my Colorado. I could only turn at higher speeds. I could drive fairly straight, but could not make any quick maneuvers. I would not have been able to avoid anything. The dealer said it would cost $2600 to fix it. Also the stabletrack icon came on. I felt very unsafe driving my Colorado. When I asked the service person what I should do because I couldn-??t afford to fix it, he said -?? park it and don-??t drive it-??. He was very rude. He wasn-??t happy that I wouldn-??t pay him $4250 for my steering issue and the display screen.

Wife driving truck on Sunday morning sept18 2022, in an area that is 25 mph add all of a sudden she lost all power steering of truck, had a very hard time getting truck home almost had an accident, . said nothing of a warning but when it happened then warning came up and also warning lights came on, said something about power steering not available. Had mechanic scan truck was told that it is a steering gear torque sensor. also provided me with a recall notice on the same thing for the 2015 Colorado's. there is a service bulletin on the 2016 Colorado's but not a recall, This truck was purchased in Aug. of 2015 so i believe it should be covered. The mechanic said it should be since it is the same parts that were recalled on the 2015 model.

Randomly, sometimes when starting my truck and sometimes driving at speed the power steering and stabilitrack lights come on and an audible "ding" is made and I lose all power steering. I've read hundreds of complaints about this very same issue and a recall was made on the 2015 year models, but not for the 2016. I called the dealer and am told to drive it in when the issue replicates. Chevrolet knows about this issue and known repairs cost thousands of dollars. It is safety issue. Just today I lost power steering when entering a highway on a curve and almost drove the truck straight into a concrete embankment. Please do something about this.

On two occasions, while driving without warning, the power steering disengages. There is a chime, and the stability system and the power steering are disabled. This is a very dangerous situation and a safety issue; there have been several complaints about this, and it seems to be a reoccurring problem.

-- The power steering fails while driving. The Traction Control and Stabilitrak warning lights appear. -- The truck is very hard to control and unsafe when the power suddenly steering fails. -- The truck has not yet been brought for service to address the problem. -- The truck has not been inspected by anyone yet. -- There are not any indications of the problem before it occurs. -- It is extremely dangerous. The 2015 Chevy Colorado trucks had a recall for this issue, but there is not a recall for the 2016 although it appears to be a well-known issue.

Several times in the last month, while driving at various speeds, the power steering light and the stabilitrak light come on and I loose power steering. Twice this has happened at higher speeds and on a curve, making it very difficult to control the truck. I drove to dealer, but they indicated no codes were present for the check engien light. I explained it was not check engine rather the other two mentioned above. I have had this happen 6 times now, and the quick cure is to shut the truck off and restart. This resets the electronics and the truck is fine until the next time. Lates occurance was 8/23/22.

While driving on the highway "service stabilitrack" warning suddenly appeared. The warning went away, but the light on the dash stayed illuminated as if I had manually turned off stabilitrack. Dash then indicated traction control was turned off, speedometer, rpm gauge, and temp gauge all started bouncing around and fuel range indicated "--". Also received a warning that power steering is not functioning. Vehicle would not appropriately change gears (automatic transmission), causing issues maintaining speed. I have a video of the gauges (taken by my partner while I was driving) that can be sent via email, or screenshots can be uploaded upon request. An online search yields several forum posts indicating this is a repeated issue for this model year, causing significant safety issues and leaving individuals stranded. Within forums I discovered a service bulletin regarding the issue, but it appears no one felt this was important enough to issue a recall or notify owners. I have not yet been able to get to a dealership for repairs, as this occurred on a weekend (while I am 14 hours away from home), but I will be contacting a dealer Monday morning.

my power steering will stop working intermittently. this can occur when first starting the vehicle or it can occur when traveling down the road. putting the vehicle in park and shutting the engine off then restarting and sometimes the steering comes back and sometimes it doesn't. lost steering again last week, drove approximately 10 miles and stopped by a local store. came out and started the vehicle and steering came back but the stabililink system light stayed on and the truck pulls to the left traveling down the highway. the problem is intermittent. the chevy dealer told me can't be repaired because they cannot replicate the condition. even though the service codes are set in the ECU. this has been going on for approximately 1 year or longer. extremely dangerous to drive this vehicle. no help from dealer

While driving the truck randomly loses power steering. The display screen states that the anti-lock brake system needs to be serviced. Once I turn the truck off and back on it seems to reset and work as normal. The dealer will not fix due to the truck not having any check engine lights on. This is very frustrating and a safety issue that Chevy needs to look at.

My car intermittently will display "Service power steering, drive with care" upon starting the car. If I turn off the car and let it sit for a couple seconds and restart the issue goes away. It seems to be behaving the same as N202325410 which was for the 2015 version of the same truck.

The vehicles power steering system has failed on at least six occasions while being operated over the course of the past 30 days. When the power steering system fails the vehicle display gives two warnings: First, steering assist is reduced drive with care. Second, service stablitrak. This puts the safety of the operator and others at great risk as the vehicle becomes extremely difficult to steer, especially at low speeds, as well as limits the driver's ability to drive reactively to their surroundings. This extreme loss of control has lead to uncomfortably close near collisions on two occasions. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or service center. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer or any other entity. There were no other warnings lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. However, the problem is highly common and with the use of a search engine one can easily come to the conclusion that the manufacturer needs to be held responsible for their faulty craftsmanship in reference to this issue.
