While driving at any rate of speed, in any condition, my power steering will suddenly disable, the gas/acceleration stops working and the stabilitrak light comes on. This has happened while backing out of a parking spot (after sitting all day long at work), it has happened going 35mph on a sunny day and another time going 45mph in the rain (happened last week). Fortunately I have always been on a straight street when it has happened. It is very difficult to steer if not impossible. If this happens while I'm on a curve it could result in a very bad accident. My wife says she will no longer drive it. The dealership told me they cant get it to duplicate while driving so they cannot help me. I only have 36,098 miles. I took it to the Chevy dealership at only 28 miles passed my warranty coverage. GM needs to recall this immediately. I've been loyal to Chevy. They should be loyal in return and fix this issue.

Power steering has gone out 4 times in last 6 months. ABS and traction control lights come on. Truck is impossible to steer. Have to stop, turn vehicle off and restart. Power steering back to normal. The error lights stayed on but after a few miles they went off. There is a recall on 2015 Colorado's for this very same problem. Guess NHTSA will wait until several people die before you expand the recall to 2016 Colorados

  • 13,000 miles
While driving in route to my residence I wad making a left hand turn at about 15 mph. In the process of making the turn the power steering completely failed. This caused me to bump the medium and all of the dadh warning lights came on. This occurred while on a 45 mph roadway turning into a residential neighborhood. This appears to be a power steering sensor or electrical issue. The vehicle had only 13,000 miles on it. Dealership was called (bakersfield ca. 10-22-19) and we were told this was not covered under warranty. Still not repaired at this time. Internet is filled with similar reports.

Driving my 2016 Chevy Colorado lt 4X4 down the highway and also on 2 lane roads in great weather conditions the service power steering and stabiltrak lights came on. Electric steering was disabled and I had extreme difficulty with turning left or right. This is the same recall as GM 15595. Turning the vehicle off and on resolves the issue temporarily. Now it is happening more and more and I do not feel safe with my family in the vehicle.

This 2016 Chevy pick up the right fronttire boke loose of the vehical and caused the vehicle to wreck into another car. The suspension on the lower attachment point broke away around the lower tyrod attachment point. The upper broke also at the attachment point. These parts are made of cast aluminum and have the lower tyrod where it attaches on is a tapered part if it is tightened to much T wil cause the casting to crack.it appears that this part had a crack in the part. I am a 49 year machinist nd see that the part is a pore design and is a low grade of cast aluminum use to attach this critical part of the vehicle. This vehicle was traveling less than15 mph when this occurred. Please look into this and let me know if you need more information. I lost power steering while driving our 2016 Chevy Colorado down an off ramp from an interstate highway. The steering wheel felt like it locked up. I had to take my eyes off the road to look at the warning messages and then process that it might be loss of power steering. This was an extremely dangerous situation as steering was very difficult and I still needed to get to a safe place to stop. I was able to pull through an intersection and get off the road. I turned off the truck and then restarted and the problem went away. I will take the truck to the dealer for an explanation hopefully.

Vehicle when is started "service power steering" message is displayed along with the ABS light and stabilitrack light. Turning the engine off and on did not fix the issue. The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado. While exiting a parking lot at 15 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to turn and the power steering and traction control warning indicators illuminated. The contact continued to drive the vehicle home without power steering ability. When the contact arrived home, he powered off the engine, restarted the vehicle, and everything was fine. The contact also stated that the back -up camera indicated "track not available" on the instrument panel. The contact called koons tysons Chevrolet Buick GMC (2000 chain bridge rd, vienna, va 22182, (703) 790-9800) and scheduled an appointment. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer and was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but did not assist. The approximate failure mileage was 43,000.

On multiple occasions the "service power steering" message is displayed along with the ABS light and stabilitrack light. On two of these occasions right when I turned on the truck, the power steering actually went out and made the wheel very difficult to turn. Restarting the engine solved the problem, but this would be very dangerous if it were to occur while driving. The lights have come on while driving without the power steering going out, and have turned off on their own after a few minutes.

I have a 2016 Colorado with only 56,000 easy miles. I started my truck in my driveway and started to back up. I noticed the power steering did not work and warning lights appeared on the dash indicating a power steering problem. Restarting the truck did not correct or reset the power steering function. I have owned 5 other trucks in my life time and never experienced anything like this. Now I have a $1800 bill from the dealership. There are 23 other power steering complaints on 2016 Colorados on your website. A low mileage pick-up should never have a this problem. Please do something.

Power steering (ps) stops working either while in motion or stationary. Problem is intermediate & started 11 jly 2019. It doesn't seem to make a difference if in a corner or straight, the ps just quits @ various times. If my wife or daughter are driving when ps stops working, it could lead to an accident because they don't have the upper body strength to steer manually, especially if it happens in a corner. NHTSA recall bulletin 15595A covers this problem with the 2015 Colorado's but not the 2016 Colorado's. the recall needs to be expanded.

I was driving my Chevy Colorado in a marine port in high traffic. My truck dinged as two service codes came across my dash. Service - power steering drive with care and service stabiltrak. The most terrifying thing about this happening is the steering wheel pretty much locks and becomes highly highly difficult to get to a safe place or pull over. I was almost hit going through a intersection. I stop turn the truck off. Turn it back on. Magically the steering works again. I go to drive to my shop to have them have a look. My power steering goes out again ! no recalls present over a 2400 dollar repair. How can this keep happening and Chevy wont fix this problem !

Truck was stationary. Pulled off road to make a phone call. The power steering light came on on the dash, I tried to turn my steering wheel and nothing. I finally killed the motor and ehen I cranked it back up the light was off and steering had returned. If I had been driving, it would have been horrible, since I am a women and steering would have been impossible.

  • 65,000 miles
My 2016 Chevy Colorado has lost its power steering at over 70 miles per hour (aka freeway speeds) 4 times and the power steering warning lights have came on. This results in the truck being very difficult to control at high speed. If the engine is turned off and subsequently restarted, the power steeling assist returns to full functioning. Chevrolet has recall #15595 for this problem on 2015 Chevrolet Colorado built months before mine but refuses to repair the 2016 model with same problem. This is a true safety issue and Chevrolet should stand behind their product. The repair estimate they gave me at the Chevrolet dealership was over $2,100.
