Experience unwanted antilock brake system (ABS) activation. Increased stopping distances during low-speed brake applications, which could result in a crash. I observed this same behavior on 1999 full sized Chevrolet trucks that were repaired under recall campaign number 05V379000.

My ABS brake system is experiencing the same symptoms as those in the recent recall. So far nothing has happened but do not want to have an accident occur due to the same recall problem. I do not want to pay to have it checked by the extreme high cost of a dealership.....

The ABS brakes engaged prematurely when the brake pedal was depressed. When this occurred the brakes failed to stop the vehicle immediately, resulting in extended stopping distance. The cause of this failure has yet to be determined, pending dealership inspection.

ABS light came on, then brake light came on. When I tried to stop I almost rear-ended car in front of me because brakes were not properly working. Brake pedal was hard to push down. Happened twice within 4 blocks of my home and I have not driven vehicle since even though a mechanic told me it should still be safe to drive. I had new brakes (including parking brake repairs) and new bearings done less than 2 years ago. I spoke with a Chevy mechanic who told me modifications had been made to 99 Blazer ABS because of problems. We have owned this vehicle since late 1999/early 2000 (it had 16,000 miles when we purchased it) and have never received notice of this problem. We also have had additional problems with electrical system (dealer repaired), the wheel bearings as stated above, and the seat reclining levers breaking off (which dealer repaired once but then would not repair again). While checking the internet regarding this problem I found reference of a recall for the ABS in 1999. I do not believe it was corrected on this vehicle and also there was no mention of recalls when we bought it from the dealer in 1999/2000.

I reported my defect (headlights & dash lights dimmed ) to gmac, within 3 mo of my purchase, I wasn't sure I what I was seeing at first. I was told by gmac to take my Blazer to whitlow Chevrolet (804-323-7600), they kept my Blazer for 2 days. They said they could not reproduce my problem. I was told by the service writer, they would inform me of any bulletins that might be related to my problem. I mentioned I heard the 1999 corvette had the same problem, he said it was not related at all. I change my oil every 3,000mi and every time I visited whitlow I would ask the question about my problem, the response was "no". I took a trip to indiania on I-70, I was driving the posted speed limit, so was the driver in front of me. My lights dimmed and the driver in front of me got behind me and flashed his lights for several miles. I thought I was going to be a victim. Asap, I called gmac, they listen to my problem again referred me to ratley Chevrolet (540-898-4000). My first visit was interesting, they knew my about my problem. Inorder for my extended warranty to cover the work, they needed to prove my problem. They kept my Blazer overnite, put it on their computer, found my problem a faulty ABS sensors, and computer modual causing the ABS motor to turn itself on/off, dimming my headlights & dash lights. To my surprise I was told Chevrolet could not fix my problem because the ABS computer modual and sensors were defective. So I'm still driving Blazer, less at night. My concern is if the ABS motor is contantly running on/off, what is the lifetime of the ABS motor, I'm sure it was not designed for a constant on/off life cycle, my question to you and chverolet, will my ABS, work when I really need them, too. I am turning to you for help. Thanks in advance, richard hillard.
