This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Failed first at 38,280 repaired under extended warranty. Dealer not involved in 1st or 2nd failure/repair. Chevrolet says that 76K on repaired transmission is reasonable -- I disagree.
While driving transmission overheated causing vehicle to slip and leak oil. Transmission showed no signs of problems prior to this incident. The dealer has been notified.
Luddy Chevrolet denies that problems with transfer case and transmission are engineering defects. Transmission fluid smelled burned, and also constantly slipped. Transfer case made a noise when in motion, was a bent shaft and worn bearing. Both of these problems should not be happening to a highway driven vehicle with 61500 miles.
Transmission slips from 2-wheel drive into 4-wheel drive. Took to car dealer at 31K+ miles. Told dip stick rusted. Transmission slipped on 3 occasions previously from 2 wheel to 4 wheel drive at speeds between 45 -55 mph. At dealer now with just over 52K miles and told transmission will probably be replaced, estimated cost $1800. Believe this occurs more frequently than reported and unsuspecting owner are shelling out excessive money for faulty transmissions.
Engine check light comes on. Vehicle would lurch forward after shifting into 2nd gear. Been to dealer. Informed transmission needed to be rebuilt or replaced. Took to transmission shop & had it replaced w/rebuilt transmission which is slipping. Taking vehicle back to dealer.
Shop determined an intermittent internal problem with transmission causing 2nd and 3rd gears to remain in neutral while engine revs in 1st before reaching the shift speed into 4th. Plrblem first appeared at 12000 miles and was reported to dealer who determined "there was no problem." Situation continued to get worse over time until temp in engine began to run high causing alarm. Owner had vehicle inspected by an independent transmission specialist to have problem detected. Now with approximately 32000 miles on the vehicle, the transmission is shot.
Well so far the encoder motor, the drive belt, trans. Dipstick rusted, sensor in ses light, whining fuel pump, vibration in rear when leaving from stop, now the car stalls while driving along.and you never know when it will, it may go several miles before doing so and it may only go a couple before doing so. I feel that it is very dangerous not knowing whether you can get out of the way or not.the dealer tells me he is pretty sure that it is the fuel pump.but can not tell me for sure that it will take care of the problem....and the part alone is $518 we have a van with 142K miles and a truck with 262K miles so we feel like we maintain our vehicles or would not get the mileage..really concerned with this vehicle.....which was a fleet vehicle purchased from auction....and we were told differently.....I want to be able to get satisfaction from somewhere....please help.
Why would the transmission fail at this mileage? I have never towed anyhing or been off road. Am upset that I had to pay $668.98 in repairs on a two year old vehicle.
Mfr. Has fixed once, but refuses to fix problem any further. They say regardless of the consistant existent problem, the vehicle has too many miles now.
I have not purchased this vehicle. It is a lease and I was the first. Not only has the transmission gone out in the 53,000 range but the brakes and the power door locks. I have exceeded the allotted mileage and so I'm stuck with all of the repair bills. My transmission mechanic told me he found the flaw in the transmission that it was a faulty part. Chevrolet told me too bad and I feel in a really rude way. I really feel for other who have to repalce a transmission so soon after buying a vehicle. If you can help myself or others I sure appreciate it. Thank you, trudy horridge
While driving at 55 mph the transmission went out, the gear was stuck in 3rd gear, and the gears were shifting very hard. Consumer took the vehicle in for service, and the dealer test drove the vehicle and couldn't determine. Dealer replaced the transmission tube, and engine valve body. Also, the accelerator slips.
