This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Transmission had to be rebuilt after blowing. Transmission now jerks intermittently from 1st to 2nd. Brake pads wear extremely quick. Wiring harness under drivers seat had multiple shorts, causing no power seats, power locks, and flahing interior lights while driving.
This transmission failure is the second for this vehicle. The first was 4/09/1999 @58765 miles.vehicle is in shop as I type this report.the failure was the same in both instances. I am told by the transmission shop that this is very common to this transmission.this part should be improved by General Motors and a recall initated on their part the repair cost of each failure is $750 to 800.00.
The transmission needs rebuilt and the dealership wants $2,000. I have read on the internet of numerous people having the same problem of the vehicle shifting hard from 1st to 2nd gear. There needs to be a recall. There are to many vehicles of General Motors having this problem.
After vehicle runs for 30 minutes, transmission jerks when shifting from 1st to 2nd. I was told that the valve body needed replacement, and the valve was sticking. It will cost $1000. GMC customer service department said there is nothing they can do to help me. It is apparent that the 97 Blazer's had serious problems with both the brakes and the transmission but don't want to do anything about it. All they want to do is replace my valve body with a newer updated version now that the bugs have been worked out but at my cost. There is no reason that a transmission on any car should have problems at this mileage. To top it off, most of my mileage is highway. I also put my 4th set of brakes on at 41,000 miles. Dealer said 1st set were defective at 18K, 2nd set was only a 10K brake at 29K. Problem was never fixed and I gave up.

Transmission started to jerk when going from 1st to 2nd gear. Tried to check the transmisison fluid but the dip stick could not be taken out because it was entirley rusted. The whole dip stick and holder is rusted. There was a tsb put out by GM but they will not pay to have this fixed. They stated they found something else wrong with the transmission that the extended warranty will have to cover. My suspisions are that the rust caused the problems. Dealer stated that I would have to pay for the dip stick ad dip stick holder. Still waiting on the extended warranty people to see if they will cover fixing the transmission. Should not have to pay anything due to a faulty transmission dip stick holder that rusts!
Rust developed on the dip stick. Also, windshield wipers operated intermittently, caused by the wiper pulse circuit board. Dealer /manufacturer notified.
Engine check light has been coming on frequently. Dealership replaced the switch, they said that it is nothing to worry about. On long trips (about an hour) the light comes back on, and now the transmission starts to shift very rough.
Noise from underneath very annoying. Brakes replaced by dealer when bought now sqeaking after only 9500 miles the transmission dipstick has rusted and particles are going into the transmission. Dealership does not care the radiator was full of slug had to be flushed out of pocket for me now there is a burning smell after I accelerate smells like burnt toast. This car nothing but problems since I purchased it and will never buy this brand again thank you for listening
Transmission dip stick rusted - filling tube needed to be flushed and dip stick replaced. I was told that the O-ring gasket on these dip sticks are defective.
The transmission had rain water run down the tube from the grates in the hood ben mynett Chevrolet drained the fluid and changed the filters and replaced the dip stick and tube thy said this would do enough but now there is rust particles in the transmission and it was taken back for that they said it was nothing.the air conditioner has went out twice they said it was just a hose clogged two times in just a few months.the heater core was replaced twice in a 2 week time period the dex cool coolant has had a reputation of clogging up the heater core in all GM cars.the 4 wheel drive has went out twice this was from a vacuum hose around the transmission.the windsheild wipers have went out once.tbattery was replaced 3 times in a 2 month time period this had us stranded in 95 degree heat.turned out it was a bad alternator.the factory uniroyal 50000 mile tires only lasted 30000 miles and they would not stand behind there product.the vehicle cut off one day like it was out of gas while moving at 45 mph my wife barely got the vehicle off the road.the fuel tank had to be replaced along with the computer in the tank.( dot number: Tire size: P205-75-15 )
