Dash cracked. A/C and windshield defroster throws pieces of broken dash when it falls in Duct and fan. Dealer inspected. Offered to sell new dash cover and labor to install. dealer referred to manufacturer representative. no warning lights.
The dashboard has started to crack near the airbag. In the event of the airbag being deployed, it could potentially send sharp pieces of plastic flying into the passengers face.
Chevrolet has KNOWINGLY AND WILLINGLY placed a dash in my 08 avalanche that is dangerous. The truck has a TK airbag and Chevrolet refuses to fix the issue CORRECTLY. The dash is cracked, as most GM products from 07-13 are, and now the airbags need to be replaced. The dealership advised me that it would come apart, and that I would need to spend 2 grand to have it repaired. GM told me on a recorded phone call that they have had several of these reports and that they do not have a "documented solution" for it. They told me I have to choose between the resale value of my truck or the safety of myself and passengers. They are at fault for the dash, as well as the TK airbag. GM refuses to do anything to make it right after their shotty work.

My dash is cracked right by the airbag and right over the cluster which I feel is a defect in the material that was used to make the dash and is a safety hazard. If the airbag deploys ' could bust and pieces could fly injury someone or puncture the airbag I feel that GM should resolve this problem I should not have to pay for a new dish thank you hope to hear back soon. Furthermore there is an electrical problem with my vehicle the truck will lock by itself with the keys in the ignition or laying on the consul is happened several times on me again thank you
Cracked dashboard defect. I asked the manufacturer (GM) what happens to a cracked dashboard during a collision" their response was basically NHTSA decides what a safety concern is. Well, I recently chatted with nthsa online and asked the question, what happens to a cracked dashboard during a collision? nthsa response to me was, that would be a question for the manufacturer since they are the ones who conduct the crash tests. Apparently no one knows what happens to a defective dashboard during a collision, I imagine shrapnel impaling into my face or my children's face. We all know GM would rather pay families for the burning deaths of their loved ones rather than issue a recall for their defective product because it's cheaper..... I suggest the authority "nthsa" hold the manufacturer accountable for defects regardless of pressure from Washington representatives that may put pressure on nthsa to have less stringent standards jusr so a company can make more profits and throw more money into some asshats coffer. That's the only logical explanation as to why defects are not remedied. I asked again, what happens to a cracked dashboard during a collision? who is going to answer that question? who is going to decide if that's a safety concern? who sets the standard for safety? what's the minimal acceptable death rate due to vehicle defects? what's the minimal acceptable human deformation, handicapped rate due to vehicle defects" I look forward to having those questions answered and not just referred to an online resource that doesn't answer these questions specifically.
Oh my 08 Avalanche my dashboard is cracked right by the airbag and right above the plaster in front of the steering wheel. My vehicle also automatically lock by itself with the keys in the ignition or not in the ignition
The dashboard has cracked around the instrument cluster and the air bag. Causing safety hazards. It is obviously a flawed design GM refuses to own up to. The vehicle also has some electrical issue that causes the trucks to come to a stop on the interstate.
My dash has cracked on my 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche. My 2010 Yukon denali also has the same issue. This is a major issue with multiple year vehicles and GM needs to take care of their faithful. If not taken care of I will not buy another GM. GM needs to own this and do the right thing and stop worrying about just putting money in their own pocket. This is stealing from the consumer and is not acceptable.
The dashboard has cracked in several places. It has cracked around the passenger side airbag. I don't know if this has jeopardized the integrity of that airbag or not. Hopefully it hasn't because my wife usually rides in the passenger seat. It has also cracked in several places on the driver's side. It has even made a couple of holes where the cracks ran together and the small pieces fell into the dash and I was unable to retrieve them. And now the dash rattles all the time. This has only affected the portion of the dash that has the airbag and goes over the instruments in front of the driver. The portion closest to the windshield has not cracked at all yet. We have been very proud of our vehicles and have always taken care of them. Not only the maintenance side but the appearance means a lot to us. We just don't understand why GM has neglected to address this situation because this is something they could have stopped early on in production. If they had done so once this became an issue they could have repaired and or replaced a few and made a lot of loyal customers happy. Then they could have changed materials used to make the dashboards and everyone would be happy with no cracks. But they chose to spend their money to fight this in court and their money won. Which in turn made a lot of long time customers very unhappy including ourselves. You think if all the other car manufacturers could build a dashboard that didn't crack they could have too.
I bought this vehicle in preowned conditions. I understand it's aged but it doesn't matter if I'm driving on a bumpy road or on a new street, the dashboard rattles so loudly! there are shards of my dashboard missing. Not only is it annoying but I feel like it's dangerous. If in case the driver of the vehicle were to be involved in an accident, the airbag would force those shards at the driver or the passengers and they could be injured pretty badly. It's dangerous!
The dash of this and other affiliated models are prone to cracking due to a rigid, brittle material and a design that was not fortified or substantial enough to resist the forces of vibration that are common in such vehicles. The dash of my vehicle cracked at the apex of the instrument panel binnacle, the defogger vents at the base of the windshield and surrounding the cover of the pasenger side airbag. To replace the unit would be $1200+ and it would be with a piece of the same design. This is a safety hazard and it is loud and unsightly
I have had 5 Avalanche 3 07S 2 08S all have dash cracking issues the breaking dashes crack cause glare in drivers eyes noises that can take Focus off the road every one I've owned it's happened GM used a proprolyene dash that gets brittle when introduced to heat. This is known by GM as a defect but U guys have not enforced them to fix it's a extremely expensive fix labor is high and I'm 5 for 5 on cracking dashes. 3 have cracked so bad that when the sun hit them they throw glare toward my eyes. It needs to be addressed this is crappy. Just like GM and the crappy Cadillac srx headlights they know it's a defect then fix
A crack on the passenger side above the airbag appeared 3 years after I bought the truck. Now the driver side has multiple cracks over the instrument panel. It seems to be getting worse. The back piece of the dashboard is completely loose and flops around on uneven roads. Safety is a concern due to the fact that the plastic is somewhat brittle and may shatter on an accident or ruff roads. I have had a dash cover since new.
I drive my truck on the weekends only and at least twice a year I have to replace cylinder #7 spark plug all of the time, also got the oil pressure switch and the filter replaced twice and I get a tapping sound at idle due to the low oil pressure reading on the dash, and it has happen right after an oil change, last but not lease the cracking of the dashboard.
