The automaker says a red warning light is programmed to illuminate when the brake pads are worn out, but errors in the instrument cluster software will prevent the light from staying red. However, a yellow warning message will still be shown in the display where a driver can confirm the message and hide it until the vehicle is restarted.

The Porsche Cayenne and Panamera recall is expected to begin April 21, 2019, when dealerships will fix the problem by updating the instrument cluster software.
