— Mazda CX-9 unintended side curtain airbag deployments are under federal investigation after the driver of a 2012 CX-9 alleged the airbags caused four injuries.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), two CX-9 owners claim the right and left curtain airbags deployed without impacts to the SUVs, with one customer alleging they were driving on a freeway when the airbags suddenly hit the occupants.
The driver says there was no warning that four occupants would soon be injured by the inadvertent deployments.
Another Mazda CX-9 driver, this time involving a 2013 model, complained both the left and right curtain airbags deployed while driving highway speed.
NHTSA didn't release much information about the investigation, including how many CX-9s are included in the probe. But safety regulators say they will determine if it would be wise for Mazda to recall the 2010-2013 SUVs.
