Rollaway Danger: Ford F-150, F-650, F-750 and Ford Expedition
Ford recalls 347,400 vehicles that can mistakenly make drivers believe the vehicles are in PARK.

— Ford is recalling more than 347,400 SUVs and trucks that could unintentionally roll away, something that has already caused one crash and one injury.

Ford says the following vehicles need repaired:

  • 2018 Ford F-150 (10-speed automatic transmission)
  • 2018 Ford Expedition (10-speed automatic transmission)
  • 2018 Ford F-650 (6-speed automatic transmission)
  • 2018 Ford F-750 (6-speed automatic transmission)

The automaker says a part called the transmission gear shift cable clip is used to lock the shift cable to the transmission but the clip can move out of place and dislodge. The unseated clip can make a driver believe the vehicle is in PARK even though the transmission is still in gear.

Ford says a driver could move the shifter to PARK, remove the ignition key and receive no warning messages or chimes that would normally occur if the door was opened without the transmission in PARK.

The vehicle could easily roll if it's on an incline and the parking brake was not applied.

About 293,000 of the recalled trucks and SUVs are in the U.S., 51,742 are in Canada and about 2,775 vehicles are in Mexico.

Ford dealers will need to verify the gear shift cable clips are secure once the recall begins April 16, 2018.

Affected owners may call Ford at 866-436-7332 and request information about recall number 18S10.

Ford F-150, Expedition, Mustang and Lincoln Navigator

Ford is recalling another 161 vehicles for transmission-related problems, but different from the gear shift cable clip recall above.

Recalled are the 2017-2018 Ford F-150, 2018 Ford Expedition, 2018 Lincoln Navigator and 2018 Ford Mustang. All the vehicles are equipped with 10R80 transmissions that may be missing park pawl rod guide cup roll pins that will cause the PARK function to fail.

Ford says the gear shift indicator will show the transmission in PARK when it's not. In addition, a driver can remove the key without the vehicle in PARK, and all the typical warnings will fail. A vehicle without its parking brake applied could roll away and do serious damage to people or property.

The recall includes 142 vehicles in the U.S., 18 in Canada and one in Mexico.

Ford will begin mailing recall notices April 16, 2018.

Dealers will make sure the roll pins are installed, but owners with concerns should call the automaker at 866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 18S09.
