— Mercedes-Benz is recalling more than 6,300 vehicles in four recalls to fix four separate defects, one involving minor problems with the way headlights are aimed.
Mercedes-Benz GLE450 AMG 4Matic Coupe
The majority of the recalled cars are 5,826 model year 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE450 AMG 4Matic Coupes with problems that can cause the cars to shut down when using the brakes. The automaker says an error inside the engine control unit software can cause the cars to shut down any time the brakes are applied.
Mercedes says it's possible the driver could be confused and believe the shutdown was planned due to the start/stop function. No matter what a driver may think, the car shutting down from simply applying the brakes could be a serious safety hazard.
Mercedes-Benz says the recalled 2016 GLE450 AMG 4Matic Coupes were built December 10, 2014, to June 6, 2016.
The automaker says owners should watch for mailed notices in July and dealers will update the engine control unit software to keep the cars from stalling.
Mercedes-Benz ML250, ML350, ML350 4Matic, ML400 4Matic, ML63 AMG and GLE450 AMG 4Matic
Seat belt problems have caused the recall of 423 model year 2015 ML250, ML350, ML350 4Matic, ML400 4Matic, ML63 AMG and 2016 GLE450 AMG 4Matic vehicles.
Mercedes-Benz says the right rear seat belt anchor bolts may not have been installed correctly and could fail to hold an occupant in a crash.
The automaker manufactured the recalled cars April 27, 2015, through May 19, 2015.
The recall will begin in July when dealers will correct the installation of the right rear seat belt anchor bolts.
Mercedes-Benz SLK300, SLK350, SL400, SL550 and SL63 AMG
Mercedes says 100 cars need to be brought back to dealers to have the low-beam headlights aimed correctly to see the roads at night. Recalled are the 2015 Mercedes-Benz SLK300, SLK350, SL400, SL550 and SL63 AMG, all that could have the low-beam headlights aimed incorrectly when they left the assembly lines.
The automaker says it has no choice but to order an official recall for the cars due to federal safety standards concerning headlights.
The recalled 2015 Mercedes-Benz SLK300, SLK350, SL400, SL550 and SL63 AMG vehicles were manufactured from June 29, 2015, through July 13, 2015.
The recall begins this month when dealers will adjust the aim of the low-beam headlights.
Mercedes-Benz C300 4Matic
Mercedes is recalling just 17 model year 2016 C300 4Matic cars built November 4, 2015, to March 1, 2016. The automaker says the 17 cars have electric power steering assist systems that can shut down because of a problem with software.
Losing power steering while driving can cause trouble, especially if the car is traveling around a corner or at slow speeds.
Mercedes-Benz C300 4Matic owners should watch their mail for recall notices. Dealers will keep the power steering working by updating the software for the electric power steering control units.
