— Mazda is recalling only 578 vehicles, but it's an important recall for those 578 vehicles and their owners. Mazda says the following recalled cars and SUVs may lose their steering control without warning.
- 2013–2014 Mazda Mazda2
- 2016 Mazda CX-3
- 2014–2016 Mazda CX-5
- 2013–2015 Mazda CX-9
Mazda has released very limited information about the recall and more details will be provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in the future. However, the automaker says the front strut and steering knuckle can separate and cause what Mazda calls a "significant loss of steering control and increased risk of a crash."
Mazda blames the problem on an automatic tightening system that can fail to tighten the front strut assembly lower mounting nuts and bolts to the proper torque specifications.
No accidents or injuries have been reported related to the defect.
Mazda didn't say when the recall will begin but said once it does, dealers will inspect and correct all front strut lower mounting nuts and bolts.
