Kia Sedona Recalled Again to Fix Lower Control Arms
Kia recalls 98,000 Sedona minivans to fix lower control arms that can break from corrosion.

— Kia Sedona minivans have been recalled for the second time to fix front lower control arms that can break from corrosion.

Kia recalled the minivans years ago for the same problem and says this latest recall was ordered for lower control arms that were not previously replaced. The recall will also allegedly fix problems with lower control arms that didn't have an adequate application of anti-corrosion coatings during the previous recall.

Kia says nearly 98,000 model year 2006-2012 Kia Sedona minivans are recalled if they were originally sold in, or currently registered in the following U.S. states:

Alaska, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia.

Kia says although the recall involves model year 2006-2012 Sedona minivans, the problem has occurred almost exclusively in 2006 minivans, something that can cause a loss of steering control. The problem is caused by road salt and a lack of regular cleaning of the underbody at times when road salt is used.

The automaker will approach things differently based on the model year of the vehicles.

Kia dealers will replace the front lower control arms in the 2006-2007 Sedona minivans and in 2008-2012 Sedonas, dealers will either replace the front lower control arms or apply extra anti-corrosion coating.

The 2006-2012 Kia Sedona minivans involved in the recall were built from June 15, 2005, through August 14, 2012.

Sedona owners should also ask Kia about its general reimbursement plan concerning reimbursement of repair expenses related to the control arms.

The Kia Sedona recall should begin July 25, 2016. Owners of the 2006-2012 Sedona minivans can call Kia at 800-333-4542 and refer to recall number SC133.

The Kia Sedona minivan hasn't had a good week, considering 220,000 of them were recalled less than a week ago to keep the hoods from flying off the minivans. That recall is also blamed on corrosion problems.
