Daimler Recalls Vans With Windows That Can 'Peel Away'
Daimler says Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner Sprinter vans have windows that could detach from vans.

— Daimler Vans USA is recalling 55 vans in one of the strangest recalls ever announced. The automaker says 2015-2016 Mercedes Benz and Freightliner Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vans have paint jobs that could cause the windows to detach and fly out of the vans.

Confused yet? Here's Daimler's explanation.

Daimler determined multiple layers of paint had been applied to the recalled vans, but the paint supplier discovered a problem with the chemical composition of the paint. The issue can cause a loss of adhesion between the top layer of paint and the body of the van, the same paint that is bonded to the windows of the van.

The automaker says in the event of a crash, the windows could "peel away" from the van because of the inferior adhesion between the layers of paint.

The 55 recalled vans were manufactured April 1, 2015, to October 31, 2015, and no accidents or injuries have been reported related to the defective paint.

Daimler doesn't know when the 2015-2016 Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner Sprinter 2500 and 3500 recall will begin. Dealers have been told to remove all the windows and inspect the paint, and if needed the vans will be repainted.
