— Audi is recalling its 2017 Q7 for the second time in three months, this time to repair seats that can move when they shouldn't.
Audi says more than 19,200 Q7 SUVs have third-row seatbacks that can move forward under any kind of load, especially in a frontal collision. Even a minor impact could cause an occupant to be jerked and thrown around, leading to possible injuries.
Audi says it discovered the seat problems during internal testing in May 2016 and opened an investigation to determine if there was a problem with the test, or defective parts. It wasn't the tests, as engineers found the lower transverse pipe used in the third-row seating was improperly manufactured, causing the seat structure to weaken.
The recalled 2017 Audi Q7 SUVs were built from August 30, 2015, to July 10, 2016.
Audi says the recall notices should be mailed sometime in October when dealers will install additional support brackets to the seats.
Audi Q7 owners may contact Audi customer service at 800-253-2834 and give them recall number 72F8.
In July, Audi recalled the 2017 Q7 SUVs to do something about frontal airbags that can deploy with too much force.
