— The 2016 Maserati GranTurismo and GranTurismo convertible are recalled for the second time in about four weeks, a big deal for a car that can cost $135,000.
The 33 cars are at risk of catching on fire from gas leaks, but only four cars are in the hands of owners. The remaining 29 GranTurismos are still at dealerships.
Maserati says the cars were manufactured with main fuel delivery lines that weren't galvanized, which can cause road salt and other elements to corrode the lines. The problem will arise in cold areas that use road salt on a regular basis. A corroded gas line means leaking gas if the corrosion eats through the fuel line. Leaking gas near an ignition source means a $135,000 car fire.
The recalled 2016 Maserati GranTurismo and GranTurismo convertibles were built September 1, 2015, to November 30, 2015.
Maserati has contacted the four owners and told them to return the cars to dealerships to have the main delivery fuel lines replaced. The remaining 29 cars will be repaired before they are sold.
