— Nissan is recalling about 44,836 model year 2015 Rogue SUVs because the transmissions could move out of the "Park" position by mistake. Parking the vehicle and walking away could cause the Rogue to roll away, especially if parked on an incline.
In addition, a driver may not be able to remove the key from the ignition when the shifter is in the “P” position.
Nissan discovered the defect during a routine inspection of a 2015 Rogue in Tennessee, specifically an issue with the quality of the transmission shift selector knob.
An investigation was opened and determined the shift selector knob and shifter rod were defective and caused uneven spring pressure inside the knob. Nissan also determined the spring could bind because of space between the shifter rod and the shift selector knob hole.
Nissan said it is unaware of any accidents or injuries related to the shifter knob.
About 33,500 recalled Nissan Rogues are in the U.S., 11,000 are in Canada, 354 in Puerto Rico and 20 in Guam, all built February 10, 2015, to May 13, 2015.
The recall will begin by the end of December 2015. Nissan dealers will replace the shift selector knob if needed, and repairs should take less than an hour.
