— Paying $140,000 for a car still means answering recall notices, as 984 owners of the 2014 Maserati Quattroporte GTS will soon learn. Maserati says a call to the fire department might be required because of problems with an electrical short that can cause a fire.
The automaker says the positive battery cable for the alternator/starter motor might have an improperly installed insulating cap. Maserati further says the cable may not be secured in the engine bay and could cause an electrical short to the ground. That's where the real problems can begin.
If the positive battery cable shorts to the ground, the wiring harness can overheat and cause a fire.
The problems can also cause damage to the alternator/starter motor cable and cause failure of the car to start or cause the battery to drain. Additionally, the engine can stall while driving.
The automaker says the recalled 2014 Quattroporte GTS cars were manufactured October 1, 2013, to December 31, 2013.
The Maserati recall should begin November 11, 2015. Dealers will check to verify the starter motor cable has the protective cap installed correctly and verify the cable is secured. If needed, the starter motor cable assembly will be replaced.
Owners of the 2014 Quattroporte GTS may contact Maserati customer service at 1-201-816-2600 and give them recall number 279.
