— Fiat Chrysler (FCA US) is recalling over 206,000 model year 2014 Jeep Cherokee SUVs to repair windshield wiper problems.
Chrysler hasn't released a lot of details but did say an internal investigation discovered static buildup can cause a problem with the windshield wiper control module. The problem occurs when the windshield wipers are turned on during dry conditions and the static can cause the wipers to stop working.
Although windshield wipers that fail suddenly can be a dangerous situation, Fiat Chrysler says no injuries or accidents have been reported.
FCA says 158,671 of the Jeep Cherokees are in the U.S., 18,366 are in Canada, 3,582 SUVs are located in Mexico and about 26,049 model year 2014 Cherokees are outside those areas.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration hasn't released a recall schedule, but Chrysler says dealers will install a ground strap to the wiper control module to prevent static buildup. Owners of the recalled 2014 Jeep Cherokee SUVs should watch their mail.
