Ford Recalls 221,000 Vehicles To Repair Door Handles and Seat Belts
Pesky springs and fasteners need repaired in the Ford Taurus, Transit Connect and Lincoln MKS.

— Ford is recalling 221,000 vehicles to repair problems with the door handles and seat belts.

Ford Taurus, Lincoln MKS and Ford Police Interceptor

Ford is recalling 205,000 vehicles to repair springs that control the inside door handles. The automaker says the spring can move out of position and cause the door to unlatch in a side-impact crash.

The recall involves the 2010-2013 Ford Taurus, Lincoln MKS and Ford Police Interceptor sedans with the following manufacturing dates:

  • 2010-2013 Ford Taurus vehicles built Dec. 1, 2009, to July 31, 2010, and Feb. 1, 2011, to Nov. 30, 2012.
  • 2010-2013 Lincoln MKS vehicles manufactured June 2, 2011, to Oct. 31, 2011.
  • 2010-2013 Ford Police Interceptor sedans built Dec. 1, 2009 to July 31, 2010, and Feb. 1, 2011 through Nov. 30, 2012.

Ford Dealers will inspect all four interior door handle assemblies and repair or replace the handles as necessary.

Ford Transit Connect

About 16,000 model year 2014 Ford Transit Connect vans have problems with the seat belt fasteners. Ford says the fasteners weren't tightened properly during manufacturing. The faulty torque specifications can cause the seat belt fasteners to loosen over time and fail to work properly in a crash.

However, Ford says it's unaware of any accidents or injuries related to the defective seat belt fasteners.

Ford didn't say when the Transit recall will begin, but dealers will replace and tighten the seat belt fasteners, and replace the cargo tie-downs located in the cargo area.

Ford hasn't released a schedule of when the recalls will begin. If you have questions or comments, contact Ford customer service at 866-436-7332.
