— Ford is recalling about 8,000 cars to fix problems with parking brakes that could allow cars to roll away on an incline. Ford says the recalled cars include the 2015-2016 Ford Explorer, 2015 Ford Taurus and Flex and the 2015 Lincoln MKS and MKT.
The automaker hasn't said much about the recall and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration hasn't released details, but Ford said the parking brake might not engage completely. Although Ford didn't say why the parking brake can fail, the automaker did say no accidents or injuries have occurred related to the defect.
The recalled cars were built in during the following manufacturing periods.
- 2015-2016 Ford Explorer, 2015 Ford Taurus, 2015 Lincoln MKS - Built in Chicago - May 4, 2015, through May 23, 2015.
- 2015 Ford Flex - Built in Ontario, Canada - May 4, 2015, through May 23, 2015.
- 2015 Lincoln MKT - Built in Ontario, Canada - May 4, 2015, through May 21, 2015.
About 7,165 cars are located in the U.S. and its territories, 799 cars are in Canada and one in Mexico.
The parking brake recall is expected to begin August 31, 2015. Ford dealers will test the parking brake system and replace the parking brake control assembly, if needed.
Owners of the recalled vehicles can call Ford customer service at 866-436-7332 and give them recall number 15C07.
