Land Rover LR2 and Range Rover Evoque need software updates to fix air bag failures.

— Jaguar Land Rover is recalling over 40,000 model year 2010-2015 LR2 and 2012-2013 Range Rover Evoque vehicles for air bag problems.

Land Rover says the front passenger air bag can become partially or completely disabled because a failing component in the occupant classification system electronic control unit.

Land Rover discovered the defect from field data regarding the performance of the air bag system. Owners reported seeing the air bag light illuminated and found the condition could clear after turning off then restarting the vehicles. Land Rover says the air bag would use the last known valid settings for that ignition cycle.

Land Rover says it is unaware of any accidents or injuries related to the defect.

The recall should begin on August 30, 2014. Land Rover dealers will update the restraint control module software on the 2010-2015 LR2 and 2012-2013 Range Rover Evoque.
