— General Motors has announced two recalls involving over 50,500 popular models and even though we are just five months into 2014, some of the recalled trucks are for model year 2015.
2013 Cadillac SRX
Over 50,000 model year 2013 Cadillac SRX luxury crossover vehicles are recalled because of acceleration problems. GM says there can be a three to four second lag in acceleration due to the transmission control module programming. However, for this to happen the conditions have to be just right. And we mean just right.
GM says the problem can only occur during an upshift from first to second gear (8- 10 mph) then the driver brakes the vehicle to less than 5 mph, then accelerates again, all within 2 seconds.
The recalled 2013 Cadillac SRX vehicles are equipped with 3.6L engines and manufactured May 29, 2012, through June 26, 2013.
Considering the trouble it's already in for waiting years to order recalls, GM apparently didn't waste any time with this one. GM says the issue was presented to a review committee on April 14 and three days later GM decided to recall the cars.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration hasn't released a recall schedule, but GM dealers will reprogram the transmission control module once dealers are ready.
2015 Chevrolet Silverado HD / GMC Sierra HD
As with the Cadillac recall, GM management says they learned of the problem April 14 and decided to recall the trucks three days later.
The heavy duty trucks are equipped with a diesel engine and dual fuel tanks that have pipe tube nuts that may not have been properly torqued on each side of the diesel fuel transfer pump . GM says gas can leak at the fuel transfer pump if there is gas in the rear tank and the transfer pump activates to move gas to the forward fuel tank. One spark near that would cause the new truck to turn into scrap.
The 2015 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra recall should start around May 19, 2014. GM dealers will tighten the fuel pipe connections so the gas doesn't leak.
