— Hyundai has expanded their recall of 2012 Hyundai Veloster vehicles because of exploding sunroofs, which brings the total number of recalled vehicles to almost 20,000.
Hyundai originally recalled vehicles equipped with panoramic sunroofs and manufactured November 1, 2011, through April 17, 2012. The recall now includes vehicles manufactured July 4, 2011, through October 31, 2011.
The recall should begin in March, 2013. Dealers will inspect the sunroof and replace the sunroof glass assembly if necessary.
The problem was discovered when Veloster owners complained their sunroof glass shattered with no apparent outside cause. Many owners said the glass shattered while driving at highway speeds, but other drivers said the sunroof exploded while the vehicle was parked, with no evidence of anything striking the glass from the outside.
At the same time the original recall was announced concerning shattered sunroofs, Hyundai announced a separate recall for parking brake problems in the 2012 Veloster.
