— Chrysler has announced they are recalling over 50,000 vehicles after recalling over 840,000 vehicles earlier this month.
The majority of vehicles in today's announcement include 45,961 model year 2013 RAM 1500 trucks manufactured June 26, 2012, through February 5, 2013.
2013 Dodge RAM 1500 (Electronic Stability Control)
Chrysler says a software problem with the electronic stability control (ESC) module can cause the system to disable itself when the vehicle is started.
A loss of electronic stability control could cause a loss of directional control, although Chrysler doesn't know of any accidents or injuries related to the problem. The main symptom is the ESC light that will stay on when the vehicle is running.
The recall should begin in August, 2013. Chrysler dealers will update the ESC module software, but if you have already paid to have a dealer fix the problem, Chrysler will reimburse you the cost.
The 2013 RAM 1500 recall number is N37.
2013 Dodge RAM 4500 and 5500 (Structural / Frame)
In addition to the RAM 1500, Chrysler is recalling over 1,000 model year 2013 RAM 4500 and 5500 trucks manufactured January 22, 2013, through March 8, 2013.
Chrysler says the trucks could start pulling to one side because an incorrect bolt may have been used to attach the track bar to the frame. The truck could quickly yank you off the road if the bolt breaks or falls out.
Dealers will inspect and replace the track bar fasteners, if needed. That will happen when the recall starts in August, 2013.
The 2013 RAM 4500 and 5500 recall number is N41.
2014 Grand Cherokee (Exterior Lighting)
Finally, a lighting problem is the culprit behind the recall of over 4,400 model year 2014, non-SRT trimmed, Grand Cherokee vehicles equipped with premium headlamps.
The affected vehicles were manufactured January 14, 2013, through March 20, 2013.
Chrysler says electrical spikes may cause the parking lamps to turn off when switching between daytime running lights and parking lights. That could cause another driver to have trouble seeing the Grand Cherokee, and that's against federal safety standards.
As with the other recalls, this one should begin in August, 2013. Dealers will update the central body controller software.
This Grand Cherokee recall number is N42.
