— BMW is recalling over 1,500 model year 2009-2010 X5 xDrive35d cars because of a potential fire hazard.
BMW says the fuel filter heater might have an electrical overload and could turn on, permanently. The heater is used for warming up the diesel fuel when it's cold outside, but if it stays on the battery could be drained.
Worse yet, the unit could overheat and catch fire, even if the ignition is turned off.
BMW says the affected cars were manufactured June 13, 2009, through November 9, 2009.
BMW dealers will replace the fuel filter heater during the recall, which should begin by the end of August, 2013.
