Hundreds of Kia drivers nationwide have filed complaints with the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration about sunroofs that have exploded. Both Kia and the NHTSA have received reports of injuries from falling shards of sunroof glass. Drivers have also reported a number of near-miss accidents after they were startled or distracted by the sound of the explosion.
The firm's class action lawsuit alleges that although Kia has been aware of the problem since opening an investigation in 2012, they have not yet issued a recall.
