My car has had this problem 2 times now. The first time this issue occurred (back in 2016), I found standing water in the driver's side footwell about 2-3" after a fairly heavy rain. I brought the car to my dealer and found that the sunroof drain was clogged. So they cleared the drain but said it was not covered under warranty and that to remediate the water and validate if there's damage would require pulling the carpet out and allowing it to air-dry. But this would have been at my expense, which they quoted at around $500.

Then this issue re-occurred on 3/14/2018. The car was only outside for about 3 hours and it started to rain pretty heavy. This time there was a water a water stain on the A-pillar and my carpet at the driver-side footwell was saturated with water. I took it back to my dealer and they cleared the drain but again said it would cost $500 to remove the front carpet and said the rear carpet removal would cost $900. Not to mention, the $185 diagnostic fee.

At this point, I have called Volvo Customer Care to escalate the issue. I was told this is considered a "maintenance item" and that it's not covered under any kind of warranty (damage or not). They state this is considered "outside influence", indicating that it's my fault that my sunroof drain was plugged.

As of this writing, I'm waiting to hear back from Volvo Customer Care as they opened a case for this.
