I love the way my V60 drives and its functionality. However, the reliability of this car has been totally unacceptable. I have had to take this car to the dealer for one problem or another way too many times. The most recent item was a warning that my steering system needed servicing. The dealer informed me that there is a battery (not the main battery) that supports the system and it needed to be replaced. Total cost $180 including parts and labor.
They also told me that their diagnostic computer showed that I have a problem with the thermostat that will need attention in the future. They said this will cost $475 to remedy. So far this car has been in the shop once for information system failure, twice for false low oil warning, auto start system failure which required replacement of the battery, two sets of new tires, steering system issue and will need to go in for thermostat repair. All this in 60,000 miles of driving. Totally not acceptable for a car of this level.
My prior vehicle was an Acura MDX which I put 112,000 miles on over 8 years. In the 8 years I replaced a battery, had the brakes done once, replaced the timing belt and replaced tires once. My Volvo V60 has already had to be taken to the dealership for repairs twice as much in 3 years as the MDX required in 8 years. I will never buy another Volvo.
