Started hearing a whistling noise and really couldn't tell where it was coming from. My mechanic found it and told me it was the pcv valve unit and it had to be replaced or would cause a lot of other damage. He replaced it with a new unit that he told me was redesigned and this problem would never happen again. He told me he believed there was a recall on it. I wrote my letter to Volvo online but never received anything back from them. Maybe I had the wrong web site. If anyone knows who I should direct this to at Volvo please let me know. My email is landlord2010@msn.com.

I have been bringing my '07 Volvo S40 to my local Volvo dealership since I purchased it in 2008 for regular maintenance. Other than the usual repairs (brake pads/new tires, etc) I haven't had any other problems with the car at all. The car started making a loud whistling noise, & after researching online I found that it was caused by a clogged PCV valve, that Volvo has deemed “defective” & is offering an extended warranty on the part. A week later I was able to get my car into Volvo to have the problem fixed, only to be told that there was excessive additional damage done by the defective part that would not be covered, quoting me over $1000! I was given the run around by every person that calls themselves a “manager” there, stating that there was nothing that could really be done for me about this issue. When I told them I was going to call Volvo's corporate office to discuss what other options I have (they are selling cars with a defective valve that can essentially cause the engine to explode) they suddenly were “on my side” & claimed to be calling corporate for me. I didn't hear from them for days and continued to call and call (it had been 7 days since I dropped my car off there) I FINALLY got a call from a service rep (not even the manager that I had been dealing with in the first place) saying that corporate claims they cannot do anything and that the individual dealership will offer me 20% off of my $1003 quote..bringing it to $803+tax. Unacceptable. I have now filed a complaint claim with corporate myself and am waiting an additional 48-72 hours to see the outcome. How can a reputable car company sell vehicles with a known defective part that can cause severe damage & could potentially result in the cause of a major accident & not even cover all damages caused by this part??? Something MUST be done!
