This car was purchased from a UK main dealer in January 2017 with only one previous owner registered and with only around 22,000 miles recorded and with their standard Das Welt Auto warranty. It's only just nudged above 24,000 miles since, has been recently MoT'd and serviced at another local VW Main Dealer (no faults reported)... until this!
Googling around, I now find that this is a common fault on a number of VW models and am frankly gutted to have to fork out around £350 UK to get it fixed. It's a pretty basic model but with the VW proudly displayed and the German reputation for engineering, I had thought I was still buying a quality and by extension, reliable motor. I'm now fearful that all sorts of other electrical/mechanical problems are likely to occur in future with potentially similarly exorbitant repair costs!
I've hammered several Japanese cars with hardly a hint of a problem occurring beyond routine stuff whilst the VW has been used sparingly. I am absolutely gutted and won't be opting for any other VW model in future anytime soon!
