Bought this car used 11/2021 and paid an extra $5k for a 3 year “extended warranty”. The Touareg has spent 18 months of the 30 months I have owned it. First time was one month after I bought it having to go to the dealership for a bad sensor in the DEF system. It was in the shop for five months. VW offered to buy it from me but wouldn’t tell me why. Got it late 4/2022. Brought it back 7/2022 because the DEF light came back on, entire system failed. They also discovered a crack in the exhaust manifold. That was covered by their warranty. The cracked suspension wasn’t and the warranty company would only cover half of it. Didn’t get the car back til 6/2023. 12/2023 engine noise turns out to be the timing chain having shredded, sending metal shards into the engine and turbo, destroying both and damaging the alternator. Warranty company covered only half of the engine repair and would not cover the turbo. Exhaust system “repairs done by dealership were bad and tweaked the flex pipe, causing more damage not covered by warranty company and disavowed by dealership. Lawyer has told us we got scammed on the car and the warranties used dealers sell are garbage. Said we are better off getting a certified used Japanese car. My family is now out the almost $20k we paid for this stupid car plus warranty, plus the $13k we have paid in repairs, not to mention being out of a vehicle while in the shop and the stress this has caused us financially. Not doing a VW ever again unless it is older than 2006.
