I have a 2018 Tiguan SEL with 2.0 turbo and there is an annoying metal grinding clanging noise come from engine compartment near front of engine. I had a service department visit at the dealership at Tyson Corner Va./Stohlman at they verified the noise. The noise occurs during the last couple of engine revolutions after engine shut down and only when the transmission is in park or neutral (basically trans not engaged).
The dealer though it was the radiator fan and switched out for a new one a have the same grinding noise so the reinstalled the original fan. We checked another Tiguan on the lot and heard similar sound and also with the 4 cylinder Atlas. The grinding noise is now getting louder after only less the 4 thousand miles on the car.
The dealer has verified the noise and claimed there is no other fix at this time. This is totally not acceptable and i have never owned a vehicle with this noise as standard design. I feel there is a design flaw with the new 2.0 TSI and transmission combination. You can hear it very clearly at shut down when you are in a garage or closed in area.
