I recently bought this car at 26,000 miles. Almost immediately I noticed a small hiccup when accelerating that felt like a misfire. It did not trigger any codes, but I knew it was serious. I brought it into VW, and they could not replicate the hiccup motion that I described when accelerating. They reset the transmission and told me because it's a "smart" transmission it needed to get used to my driving.
Fast forward a few weeks later and the problem is getting significantly worse each day. The small hiccup turned into violent jolting that was noticeable from outside the vehicle as it looked like a definite misfire. I also noticed that my gas mileage was suffering greatly. I called the service advisor late in the day and left a voicemail. The next morning, I was attempting to call him from bluetooth in the car and as I got ahold of the operator my car stalls out in the middle of the road and gives me a notice saying "Vehicle cannot exceed 4000 RPMS" and then it shut off. Thank God I was close to home, so I turned around and limped it back. I got it towed to VW and gave them an ear full. Their mechanic was able to diagnose the problem as a "Fuel Injector Harness". I am going to pick it up tomorrow after the repair and see if that fixes the problem.
From similar posts I've read, it sounds like an issue with spark plugs, coils, or any component in the fuel system. I'll update this once I've had time to test drive the car.
